Where's the closing bracket?

[edit]

The page says:

To change the delimiters (for example, if several instances of the template need to be strung together because of the limit on the number of parameters):
*{{IPAc-fr|[-|r|é|p|y|b|l|i|q|-|f|r|an|ç|ai|z}} produces [ʁepyblik fʁɑ̃sɛz
The full range of special values for the first parameter (changing the delimiters and/or specifying that the next parameter is an audio file) is as follows:
*-- [- -] // /- -/ AUD -]AUD //AUD -/AUD

What happened to the closing bracket, and how do you get it in? I tried to change the ending from |z to |z], |z|], and |z|-], but they all said "[unsupported input]", with a link to Help:IPA for French, which doesn't say a thing about delimiters. The lines following the example would be more helpful if they explained just what the different values mean and how to use them, such as the difference between [- and -]. I found by experimentation that [- adds a left bracket at the left, and -] adds a right one at the right, but you can't use them together.

I suspect, further, that this problem exists with other Template talk:IPAc-LANGUAGE/doc files. --Thnidu (talk) 17:46, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Thnidu: It would be more wisely to draw attention of the creator (Xyzzyva) or ask at WP:VPT, where many tech savvy people gather (you do not need to copy-paste this entire text there, a link to here would suffice).--Lüboslóv Yęzýkin (talk) 15:17, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Любослов Езыкин: Thank you for both your comments. I'll act on them, hopefully later today. До свидания.
PS: BTW:
  1. Your user page has {{Babel}} tags for both en-4 and en-3.
  2. We say "It would be wiser", not "It would be more wisely", using adjectives, not adverbs, for such constructions.

@Thnidu: 1) I did it on purpose. 2) Thanks, I will pay attention to that. I was glad to help. --Lüboslóv Yęzýkin (talk) 16:02, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Where's the conversion chart? What "natural spelling"?

[edit]
This template is used to produce a phonetic or phonemic representation (using the IPA system) of French words or sounds, using natural spelling to avoid the need to search for the correct phonetic symbols. The result is wikilinked to Help:IPA for French. Optionally, an audio file can also be specified.

Where's the conversion chart for the "natural spelling"? It sure isn't on this page or at Help:IPA for French. How does a user know to use ⟨U⟩ for /ɥ/ — that's not "natural" for French — or ⟨ain⟩ for /ɛ̃/?

Please {{Ping}} me to discuss. --Thnidu (talk) 18:23, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Thnidu: As it is said the table is encoded into {{C-fr}}, you can see it while editing. But I would strongly recommend using {{IPA-fr}}, plain and simple, there is not any difficulty entering the IPA, really, a lot of tools are online and offline. These ersatz templates are not any good. --Lüboslóv Yęzýkin (talk) 15:17, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The syllable delimiter isn't working

[edit]

The documentation shows a period (.) used to represent a syllable boundary, and the article on Liaison (French) repeatedly uses it on one side of the consonant involved in the liaison that has a tie on the other side (for which this template's documentation prescribes an underscore, (_)). But I tried that with les oreilles, {{IPAc-fr|//|l|e|.|z|_|ɔ|ʁ|ɛ|j}}, and it yielded /le[unsupported input]zɔʁɛʒ/. Am I misunderstanding something or is it broken?
