Template:Infobox Indian urban area Siddipet is a town and a municipality in Medak district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh with a population of 64,835 [1]. It is the biggest town in Medak district and is 80 km away from Hyderabad. The town is dominated by the business community and many small scale industries in this town showcase the people's potential.

Geography

Siddipet is located at 18°06′N 78°51′E / 18.1°N 78.85°E / 18.1; 78.85[1]. It has an average elevation of 475 metres (1558 feet).

Siddipet is a major town in Medak district. It is situated between Hyderabad and Karimnagar on Rajeev highway.

Demographics

As of 2001 India censusTemplate:GR, Siddipet had a population of 61,650. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Siddipet has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 60%. In Siddipet, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Places of interest

Koti lingala gudi, Sharabeshwara Swamy temple (Sun god), Anantha Sagar, Saraswathi temple, Syed Sadulla Baba Darga (irkode), Janulla Shah Darga are located in and around Siddipet.Sri maha renuka devi temple built by great shaktha kula guru "sri venkata ramanaiah " is just 3Kms away from siddipet.

A huge temple Sri Uma Parthiva Kotilingeshwara temple built in the 70s is really beautiful and is running a Vedic school on its own. It has over 10 million (koti, which means crore) lingams present in it. Adding to this, there is a Shirdi Sai temple which is a major attraction to the city. The town also has an old church and two old Mosques, Badi masjid and Choti masjid (makka masjid). Some other old landmarks are : Bruj, Iqbal Minar and Kamaan situated in the heart of the town.

Nearby Siddipet, there is a place called Chinna Kodur. There is a Castle (fort) built by Akkana and Madhana. Still (Chakunta Family) people live in that fort. It is 6 km away from Siddipet.

If you travel towards siricilla which is 30km away from siddipet, you will see one more historical village called "GURRALA GONDI". It has an shiva temple, ellamma temple. For every 5 years there will be a celebration at ellamma temple with a gathering of more than 5000 people.

People

People are very loving, tolerant, respectful of each other's religious and cultural values. Most of the people fall under middle class. Siddipet is also famous for doctors,painters, software engineers, mathematicians, businessmen, teachers and hard working middle class society. Famous Painters like K.Rajaiah(National Awardee) and Y.Balaiah(International Artist) Sandeep Reddy(Social service) are from siddipet only.

Business

Siddipet is famous for rice mills, Mangalore tile industries and poultry business. It has good banking industry, financial institutions which are fully computerized and the branches are second in position in turnovers. Siddipet is famous for rice mills and oil mills; it stands in second place after Miryalguda in Andhra Pradesh for number of rice and oil mills. It is also a place for good artists. It deserves the district head quarters status being a large town in the Medak District. Siddipet is geographically a junction between 5 northern Districts. It should have got a railway link long back but due to some political reasons it is not implemented. and a very famous man mohammed abdus salam from dubai married with a girl from siddipet and a very loved couple.

Politics

The town is shining these days because of Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) as this party was founded here. Mr.K. Chandra Shekar Rao (TRS President) is a native of Siddipet. He has been State Minister for transportation and served as Deputy Speaker of the state assembly and also been as a central government minister for labour.

Mr. KCR the founder president of Telangana Rastra Samithi is working hard to get separated from Andhra.All the people from telangana wish to be separated from andhra since accent,dressing and many more like Festivals and the way of celebrating the festivals is very much differed from andhra.With the grace of people from telangana , KCR won the elections in 2006 with the highest majority from Karimnagar constituency.

Mr.Late A. Madan Mohan, former minister hails from this town. Mr.Farooq Hussain, AP State Minority Finance Corporation Chairman is a native of Siddipet.

Education

Siddipet has two Engineering colleges, a Nursing training college, BEd Colleges and good High schools. Some schools have got state ranks. In Siddipet we can find good schools and good education insstitutes.

Weather

Mostly hot,especially during summer.One of the coolest places in andhrapradesh in winter.

Komati cheruvu & Yerra cheruvu , sub-river of Manjira(which is sub river of Godavari) is located at this place.
