The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is an upcoming American post-apocalyptic television series created by Scott M. Gimple and Danai Gurira for AMC. It is set after the conclusion of the original The Walking Dead series, with Andrew Lincoln, Gurira and Pollyanna McIntosh reprising their roles. The Ones Who Live will be the sixth spin-off and overall seventh television series in The Walking Dead franchise. It is scheduled to premiere in 2024 on AMC and AMC+.[1]

Production

Development

The series was announced in July 2022 by Scott M. Gimple, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Lincoln and Gurira signed on to reprise their respective roles from the television series.[4] The first season will consist of six episodes and is intended to be a continuing series.[5] The series was titled The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne by April 2023,[6] then retitled to The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live in July 2023.[7]

Writing

The series was created by Gimple and Gurira, who will also write for the series, with Gimple serving as showrunner.[8] The series was set up by The Walking Dead's series finale "Rest in Peace", which featured the return of Rick and Michonne.[9]

Filming

Principal photography began on February 15, 2023,[10] and wrapped on May 29, 2023,[11][8] under the working title Summit.[12] Pollyanna McIntosh was spotted on set filming in New Jersey in March 2023.[13]

Release

The series is scheduled to premiere in 2024.[14]
