Biswas
Biswas (pronounced in Bengali as "bish-shash") is a surname commonly used by the Bengali community of India and Bangladesh. The surname was an honorary title bestowed on persons who were relied upon for the work of accounts, receipts and expenditure.[1] Among Bengali Hindus, the surname is associated primarily with Scheduled Castes,[2] as well as General castes like Mahishyas[3] and Kayasthas.[4][5] The surname is also found among some Muslim and Christian Bengalis.[6] In Bengali, Biswas means faith or trust.[7]
