Dear Chris,

Today, I noticed that a link had been changed so that it is not interactive anymore. When I logged in with my user name, the message said I didn't exist. What gives?

Help and thank you, City of Branch City of Branch (talk) 17:22, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Dear Chris,

I looked through all the interactive words and cannot find the template for reference any longer. Specifically, reference #25 has changed from http://www.texascityattorneys.org/2011speakerpapers/rileyfletcher/typescities-update2009-CDAdams.pdf to http://222.tml.org/legal-pdf/TypesofCities2012.pdf Where's the template to do this?

Thank you, City of Branch72.34.188.167 (talk) 18:29, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to see you return. Use {{Cite web}}. It has a switch "type=pdf" that will flag the link as leading to an Adobe document.
Also, if you want to mess around with javascript, try User:Dispenser/Reflinks. Reflinks will let you drop a bare URL like the ones you have above, put it between ref tags, and Reflinks will automatically grab data from the website to fill out a citation template. It doesn't work on pdf links, but it'll work on anything html. Chris Troutman (talk) 18:51, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

References altered!

[edit]

Dear Chris,

I printed off and tried to do as instructed in order to update reference #25, but I was unsuccessful. In the meantime, the references have been altered, so that now there are extra numbers added and they are no longer interactive. PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank you very much!38.107.192.196 (talk) 04:07, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what the problem is. I updated the URL on the alphabet soup reference, which was just pasting in the new URL in place of the old one. In any case, please visit the teahouse if you're having problems with the coding or the visual editor. I'm just one guy. Chris Troutman (talk) 04:19, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And by the way, typically if you need someone's help, contact them on their talk page. Luckily I was still watching your talk page to see your call for help. Chris Troutman (talk) 04:22, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gratitude+

[edit]

Dear Chris,

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I appreciate your help! I made an error on the new address: instead of a dash - between the words, legal & pdf, it was supposed to be an underscore _ Just now, I changed it and it worked! YEAH! Thank you for your patience! City of Branch (talk) 04:36, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Chris,

Two references have changed to archive.is extension. When trying to update the two references, numbers 7 and 12, Wikipedia said it will not allow the .is extension. Would it be possible to inset these two references into the body of the text, such as please see: https://archive.is/i7i23 and https://archive.is/3l1V3 Thank you for your help.City of Branch (talk) 22:10, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Chris,

Don't know what happened but the original links are working again just now. Thanks anyway, as always. City of Branch (talk) 22:22, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Chris,

Spoke too soon, 'cause references not working again. So, can I insert the archive.is link into the paragraph? Thanks for help. City of Branch (talk) 22:26, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Chris,

Sorry about all this today. Yola assured sites were running OK again - and they are. City of Branch (talk) 03:13, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Someone keeps deleting my info that you and Wikipedia board approved!

[edit]

Dear Chris,

Twice this year, I've restored my references and data. Someone in the UK keeps deleting whole sections. Help? City of Branch (talk) 16:02, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Longhair\talk 20:58, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

City of Branch (talk) 16:55, 31 July 2021 (UTC)I receive NO COMPENSATION OF ANY KIND for the facts I put in the Princeton, TX Wikipedia page. Most all the facts have been displayed for TEN YEARS! The recent hyperactive edits to my referenced facts were deletions of EIGHT PARAGRAPHS! Nearly EVERY sentence had a current, interactive reference. I thought Wikipedia was interested in facts. When I edited, it was only to RESTORE what someone else deleted. Other Edits added redundant information that was already included under History. The contributions I've made are factual only. There is no association with anyone. I send emails to neighbors and relatives, that's all. A few decades ago, I retired from full-time teaching. I am not working for ANYONE!City of Branch (talk) 16:55, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

City of Branch (talk) 16:59, 31 July 2021 (UTC)P.S. Should I change my username to Private Person? I just used the name City of Branch, because it no longer exists as a city and it was an important piece to Princeton, TX history. My question is why the person hyperactively deleting 8 paragraphs throughout this month of July is not blocked? Please advise.City of Branch (talk) 16:59, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think a change of username would be appropriate as I was of the understanding that you represented the city, or former city in some way. I'll unblock you to allow for the change of username to happen. You may request a change of username at Special:GlobalRenameRequest. -- Longhair\talk 18:27, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Smile emojiHey City of Branch! Thank you for your contributions to Princeton, TX article. I had been deleting the edits to Princeton, TX article recently. Please use Talk:Princeton,_Texas to address ukexpat's 3 concerns before adding them back to the article. Like Longhair, based on your username, I was under the impression that you are trying to (misrepresent?) represent former City of Branch.
The 2 webpages under yolasite.com used as reference, if you own/control, it might be a good idea to disclose - to avoid perceived Conflict of interest and No original research. --Pinecar (talk) 05:57, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I created the two referenced Yola sites from the court case that was open to the public in 2010 and ended in 2011. In 2003, my neighbors and I were very concerned about Princeton's sudden retroactive claim to many square miles of property. After seven years of trying to work with the city, the Collin County DA brought the case vs. Princeton, because the city violated Texas law. Some evidence was gathered by a few people from public records. The case is also a public record. There is no conflict of interest, because the facts are history. There is no original research, because the case is history. When someone tries repeatedly to erase historical facts which have current, interactive references, shouldn't that person be blocked? As the world's online encyclopedia, I thought Wikipedia was interested in historical facts. Please advise. Thank you. BranchHistory (talk) 15:29, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks BranchHistory. Thanks for the disclosures 1) you creating the yolasite.com that you used for reference into the article, potentially makes your edits original research 2) While the court cases are history, as the verdict resolved your concern - your edits of the article potentially makes it Conflict of interest and not Neutral point of view.
While I fully appreciate your intention to preserve one of the court case that the city entered, unsure if wikipedia article on Princeton, TX is the right platform. This can be discussed in Talk:Princeton,_Texas or Talk:Branch, Texas, before getting into the article.
Use Talk:Princeton,_Texas to address ukexpat's 3 concerns.Pinecar (talk) 16:21, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh sorry, I thought being unblocked meant I could restore facts that had been published here for about a decade! There is no conflict of interest when only facts are related and verified. I've been sending money to Wikipedia every time it's requested on this page, sometimes two or three times a year. I'm very sad if you decide the facts are not good enough to be put into Wikipedia. I've spent hundreds of hours uploading the references and updating them whenever they changed their links. Sigh. No hope? BranchHistory (talk) 16:31, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks BranchHistory for sending money to wikipedia and spending hundreds of hours on editing Princeton, Texas article. Can you please respond to ukexpat's 3 concerns in Talk:Princeton,_Texas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinecar (talkcontribs)
I thought I had answered the three concerns above several times. Evidently, you think I have not. Would it be possible for you to restate them?
Thank you.BranchHistory (talk) 17:39, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I re-read the recent talks from July and August and see these 3 people talked to me: (1) Longhair\ (twice) (2) Pinecar (3 times) and (3) valereee (once). I don't see anything from user ukexpat. Where is it, please? And what are his/her 3 concerns? Thank you for your help.BranchHistory (talk) 18:31, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's at the talk page Talk:Princeton, Texas, which is where all discussion for that article should be. But it seems to be eight years old. —valereee (talk) 18:34, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Besides July/Aug. 2021 talks, I see old talks from Chris Troutman and from Wikipedia voting. Sorry, I'm still not seeing anything from ukexpat. Please let me know the date of his/her 3 concerns and what they are. Thank you for your help. BranchHistory (talk) 20:06, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Here. But as I said, it appears to be eight years old, so you probably don't need to bother with it. Let's take this to that article talk, please. Pinecar, if you think those questions are still relevant, probably best to open a new section there. —valereee (talk) 21:32, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks —valereee. Thanks BranchHistory. The initial concerns raised several years back are still valid. I have enumerated (verbatim) the concern once again. Click Here to take you to the Talk page where the concerns are mentioned. Pinecar (talk) 05:55, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yola site down

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Princeton, Texas article. You have referenced Yola.com site in the article, that's no more accessible now. Can you please help fixing the referenced link. Pinecar (talk) Pinecar (talk) 22:27, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I communicated with Yola for a few months. After many tries that went on for 38 pages, I was asked to communicate with Yola HQ in S. Africa for remedies. Concerned that my info may not be secure in S. Africa, I decided to opt out of Yola. The two Yola sites I created in 2013 contained 62 maps and documents of proof. Now, I'll try to add just three maps and one document as proof. BranchHistory (talk) 21:30, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
