Rankings
[edit]I am sure we can argue eternally on which is the best, the second best university in the country, which is the reason I would be in favour of a neutral statement such as “It is one of the nation’s preeminent institutions of higher learning, and one of the top business schools in Mexico, ranked as one of the best business and economics school in Latin America”, instead of actually stating it is only behind UNAM. Nobody in its right mind would contest the first statement, whereas the actual ranking can be openly disputed.
Why?, well rankings tend to be controversial because depending of measurement parameters used the results are usually incompatible when comparing the different sources. In addition, year to year comparisons form the same source tend to be unstable. Even if univesity rankings are widely used, they are not considered to reflect objectively the variable that is being analyzed.
Given, that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia I believe that information on rankings is valuable and should be included, not to support a statement, but as general information. My personal opinion would be to follow the example of Wikipedia articles on several US universities (eg. Stanford and Harvard) and find a neutral way to include the ranking issue inside the article body, for example under the “Today” subtitle.
If there are no good reasons one against this move I will proceed to make it in the following days (as soon as I find the time to do it).--LS1010 14:35, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I reverted the changes done by an anonymous user (who also deleted a message I left for User:Hapmt, who has done most of the latest editing in this article). The ITAM is one of the finest schools in Mexico, but there is no evidence to support a claim such as "[It is] the second highest ranked internationally (only behind the National Autonomous University of Mexico)". As a matter of fact, the ITAM does not lead or follows the UNAM in a single international or national ranking (see, for instance, es:Clasificación académica de universidades de México). In addition, the cited survey from Reforma does not support the second claim, the one about being "the best business and economics school in Mexico". Reforma's methodology is quite clear:
La edición de Las Mejores Universidades 2007 evalúa en este año 15 programas a nivel licenciatura que se imparten en 63 instituciones de educación superior, las cuales abarcan un total de 95 campus en la zona metropolitana de la Ciudad de México.
In short, its scope is clearly limited to bachelor's degree programs in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area. --José Gnudista 05:51, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
this article is byased
[edit]ok, so i am reading the article about this school and is clear to me that it was written as a form of propaganda. it is not objective.
- So, change it. Anybody can, this is a wiki. --Vizcarra 00:00, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
Change of name
[edit]Look at Category:Universities and colleges in Mexico all colleges are listed by name, not by initials (with ITESM as an exception). --Vizcarra 00:00, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Logo ITAM.gif
[edit]Image:Logo ITAM.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
