Neutrality?
[edit]This article should be flagged for lack of neutrality. Several of the stetements about public housing are inflammatory and do not cite adequate support. 68.161.119.95 13:05, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Revision to introductory paragraph.
[edit]I rewrote the initial paragraph to indicate Soundview's location in the southeast section of the Bronx for those looking for information at a glance. The Soundview community is north of Lacombe Ave, between the Bronx River and White Pains Road, not on the Clason Point peninsula.
The neighborhood south of Lacombe Avenue is very different than the one to the north in terms of build characteristics and demographics.
These things are evident looking at a map and walking through the area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.116.115.36 (talk) 02:31, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
- OK, but we will still need reliable sources for the assertion that these boundaries are defined exactly as you say. Visual observations are not accepted as reliable sources, since they can be challenged easily. epicgenius (talk) 02:50, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
- The article already uses these boundaries and the location in the southeast Bronx is evident by looking on the map to the right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.116.115.36 (talk) 04:02, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
- All right, but the map only gives a general overview. The map of the specific boundaries of the neighborhood haven't been uploaded yet. Since different sources may give different boundaries, I'm going to let the current boundaries stand for now. epicgenius (talk) 04:05, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
History
[edit]Following WWII, Quonset hut structures were constructed on vacant land in Soundview and Castle Hill. This was a form of emergency temporary housing due to an affordable housing shortage citywide.
On the following website, click to view the map in 1951. https://maps.nyc.gov/then&now/
- Thanks for the link. This info is in the Soundview Park article with reliable sources, so i will add them. epicgenius (talk) 04:29, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Population density
[edit]The current table figures are unsourced or improperly sourced and incorrect.
The total land area of Soundview using the article boundaries: the Cross Bronx Expressway, White Plains Rd, Lacombe Ave, the Bronx River is 1.8 sq mi. I used Google Maps measuring tool.
The total population in 2017 is 84,065. The population density is around 47,000/sq mi. I gathered this information by adding up the census tracts within the boundaries discussed on the page. This number is in line with the population density of Bronx Community Board 9, which includes Soundview.

Basically, the existing figures are way off.
- In the meantime, i think we should wait until next year when the 2020 census comes out and there are more detailed, accurate info for each neighborhood. It's infeasible to count all the census tracts for every neighborhood, so we use neighborhood tabulation areas as an approximation. However, any demographic figures would have to note which census tracts are being used. epicgenius (talk) 04:29, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Yes, might as well wait for Census 2020. But I just noticed the figures were way off and did not have sources. There are some other numbers in the article but they also should been made clearer. For example, in the demographics section, the 53,686 population figure is for zip code 10473 in 2010. Soundview is located in both zip codes 10472 and 10473, so it only includes about half the neighborhood. Also 10473 contains Castle Hill and Harding Park/Clason Point.
In the future hopefully more adjustments will take note that many figures available include multiple neighborhoods or portions of neighborhoods unless you calculate the tracts manually. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.116.115.36 (talk) 04:43, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
