Edit conflict

Well my buddy EncMstr scooped me on the welcome message, but...

Yay! Welcome aboard bro! Let me know if you have any questions--people seem to think I know my way around here pretty well and I have managed to not piss too many people off so far. :) I don't know how you feel about userboxen but feel free to grab the Manx one I made. And of course we can always use more help at WikiProject Oregon, especially on the political stuff. (Come...come...do not be afraaaaid! Mwahahaha!) See you around the wiki! Katr67 19:15, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. There are some nifty vandal-fighting tools you can add to your monobook that are very handy for the gnomish sort... Katr67 19:17, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(Didn't want the welcome to be biased, nor an inside job. :-) —EncMstr 19:25, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Doh! Darn that conflict of interest! Nothing to see here, move along... :P Katr67 19:28, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hints

Hey I was stalking you seeing what you've been up to (and I can't figure out a way to say that without ending in a preposition), and I noticed that you warned a user about his copyvio/vanity article. Thing is, you put a notabilty tag on the article, but told him you had added a {{db}} (speedy). I suspect the thing will just sit there. It might be speedy-able, but first try a {{prod}} tag--that will make it go away in 5 days if uncontested. If contested, then go for the wonderful world of an afd... Oh, and though it's tempting to call things "badly written", some people think stuff like that is a wee bit uncivil. Feel free to tell me to mind my own business. Civilly, of course. :P Katr67 00:42, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See how it looks now. Better? Point taken on civility...but it's extremely tempting after editing an article to make it look like it was written by someone whose first language is English... and I'm the MATH geek in the family.  :-) Finngall 01:35, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, that's the way to do it. :D Good luck! Katr67 01:46, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That 08 Editing guy

Yeah.. sorry bout that, I live close to Boise and I am a Beaver fan. I just hate the broncos because they're jerks. So I lost control. Sorry. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hackthecows35 (talkcontribs) 23:53, 2 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

subst:

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:uw-test1}} instead of {{uw-test1}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. REDVEЯS 20:48, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Two points:
  • 1. I've generally only left out the subst: text when it seems redundant, i.e. if someone has already been warned with {{subst:uw-vandalism1|foo}}, {{subst:uw-vandalism2|foo}}, and {{subst:uw-vandalism3|foo}}, then I would have assumed that {{uw-vandalism4}} would be sufficent if they're still vandalising the same page.
  • 2. I'm curious as to why leaving out the subst: increases server load. That seems backwards to me.
In any case, thanks for the advice. Finngall 21:31, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When you put a non-subst: {{template}} on a page, every time that page is loaded the server gets a brand new copy of the template from the original.
If you put subst: in front of the name, the server makes a one-off copy direct to the page and never goes back to check again.
If you leave subst: off, you're not preventing redundancy in any way. But you are slowing Wikipedia down every time the page is reloaded. A subst: (which means "substitute") stops that happening, uses no more bandwidth than would have been used by a single viewing of the page and helps prevent vandals trying to track down the template in order to vandalise it.
As a rule of thumb, always subst: unless the template is being put on an article. Wikipedia:Template substitution has more advice, but please ask if I can clarify anything. Happy editing! REDVEЯS 22:06, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, got it. Thanks again. Finngall 22:09, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Careful!

Hi, Finngall. Thanks for reverting the vandalism to the article Criticism of Wikipedia, but in this edit you failed to notice that although you restored the sections the vandal had removed here, you didn't restore the sections the vandal had removed here. I reverted to a version before the first vandalism, and then restored the edits made subsequently. It's not a big deal, but try to be more careful when reverting vandalism in the future. Thanks! —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 05:23, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'm usually better about checking these things. Take care. Finngall 02:28, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I Db'd it, because it has 1 g-hit, and it was from IVANHOE's own website. It seems like this is a product that is still being developed, and the article is just being posted more as an advertisement. I wasn't able to establish any notability. We'll see what the administrator thinks, if he/she doesn't think it should be a speedy delete, than it can go to AfD, because I'm skeptical. War wizard90 18:28, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Size 14

You tagged me pretty fast boss!! If you look at the Size 14 talk page I included several links to show the bands notability. If you run the google test I think you'll see it also meets Wikipedia's requirements (if you can get past all the unrelated size 14 clothes and such). If you could please remove the speedy deletion tag. Thanks for patrolling new articles though and welcome to Wikipedia!--Twintone 21:32, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

David Vandervelde from divinevelocity

hey, fingall. sorry if i miswrote or published the article too soon. I researched the info on David a while ago because I wanted to know more about who wrote the music behind NOOMA's. If he didn't have a national tour and some albums, I can see how he might better be listed on the NOOMA page. The fact he stared in one of them (not by name), and is being nationally recognized more and more, I think lends significance. divinevelocity

I'll withdraw the speedy tag. Thanks. --Finngall 01:58, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
no, problem. i hit save too soon, i know. sorry to waste your time. --divinevelocity 01:58, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mind???

I was getting to that! ;-) - CobaltBlueTony 16:32, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't make that page

I didn't make the page Adam Silver. That was my friend. He told me to make one of him, and that would be Mickey Levine. Sorry if I'm misunderstood, but do not declare false things. Thanks.PЄ|>ρ3® 00:44, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted that warning, and placed it appropriately. My apologies. Finngall 00:50, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Finngall, just a heads up that I removed your deletion tag on the Julie kirkpatrick artical and replaced with a Complete Rewrite tag. Real person that should be included...but I agree with you it VERY poorly written. Have a great day. Shoessss 16:04, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Problem is, unless there's a sex change that the article different mention, the article describes an entirely different person fron the one in the subject line.... Finngall 16:09, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Out of our hands now anyway.....deleted :-) Shoessss 16:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My Apologies

I apolagize for the trouble students in my school have been giving you. The IP address 169.244.136.226. is that of my school, and, though I am not one of the vandals, I would like to cincerly apologize for the behaviors of my fellow peers, whether they are jerks or not. I just wanted to make sure that there are no hard feelings.

Heh. Anyone silly enough to venture into reverting Wikipedia vandalism (aka the largest Whac-A-Mole game in the history of mankind) would go bonkers in a hurry if they harbored hard feelings for every vandal that came along. Fuhgeddaboudit. Finngall 16:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content. You used the wrong speedy delete tag. But in any case, I wanted to let you know that I have contested the speedy, and if you are further interested, please see Talk:1/4 + 1/16 + 1/64 + 1/256 + · · ·. Thanks. --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 19:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you already responded. Wow, you're fast. Sorry to bother you.--ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 19:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just trying to follow Wikipedia policy too. I created those articles because they were redlinks in other articles on series. I'm going to propose a question about this to the math wikiproject. Thanks for raising the issue.--ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 20:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for catching the vandalism to my user page. You caught it so fast that I didn't even catch it until I saw the activity on my watchlist. Many thanks! Realkyhick 03:26, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wait!Wait!

You can't be placing deletion tags everywhere without knowing the reason...if You see a developing article dont place tags on it please. Give the chance for other wikipedians to write about it too. Could You please remove the deletion tag in the Heroes Del Silencio Albums that you placed. User:EdwinCasadoBaez

Thanks

Re your message: Yeah, that looks like him. It appears he has stopped for now, but I have a feeling he will be back. Thanks for the revert. =) -- Gogo Dodo 17:43, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RECONSIDER

hi u just deleted my mom's band page " seriously" and i was working on it! my mom died four days ago and her band was a big part of our community. i just need one hour and i was not planning to put personal opinions or things of that nature. please i am only 14. despite my current grammer on this not my cleanig is quite tidy

:(, how can I have enough time to ask an Admin if it is deleted like in 2 seconds? Couldn't I just put a stub on it and work on it when I am at home?--Eloc Jcg 19:28, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edward Bishop

I am going to assume that this is just a combination of a missunderstanding and a computer glitch, because the other option is not a very nice one: I would like to fix the mess however the exact minute that I began putting some substance into the article I was writing you folks came in an quashed it for the second time. Unless you are actually a descendant of Edward Bishop of Salem MA the Husband of Bridget Bishop the American Martyr to Religious Freedom of 1692 I must ask you to refrain from meddling with my atttempt to write a decent article about him. Is there an actual problem or is this something else entirely ? John5Russell3Finley 21:47, 19 March 2007 (UTC) Thanks for your patienceJohn5Russell3Finley 23:10, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CalCOFI wiki

I've made changes to the CalCOFI entry so it does not replicate our website's program information but when I search for it in lowercase, it is not listed. Is there a way to index it case-insensitive?JRWilkinson 00:19, 21 March 2007 (UTC)][reply]

Broken Wing Theatre

Dear Finngall: I'm the author of the article on "Broken Wing Theatre". Being new to Wikipedia, I deleted your "speedy deletion" tag without knowing what it was (I thought it was something I'd put there inadvertently). My apologies. Regarding the "Broken Wing" article, I've added a "hang on" request, and made a plea for retention of the article on the "Talk: Broken Wing Theatre" page. Hopefully, this is all within the accepted protocols of Wikipedia. Yours sincerely, Ristudi.

Darwin

That's cool - was partly my fault, I forgot to complete the otheruses tag which would have explained the distinction. :) Orderinchaos78 19:01, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Secondontheroad has just recreated the dead race horse article, again. I posted this as a sockpuppet of User:runningcupcake03, but nobody has said or done anything since I did so. --Orange Mike 19:22, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't know about the other account, myself. Looks like NawlinWiki blocked him/her while I was filing my own report. Thanks for the heads-up, and I'll keep the TM article in my watchlist in case another sockpuppet emerges. --Finngall talk 19:31, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not Delete green andy

Sir, it is imperative that you do NOT delete Green Andy. This man is a proclaimed artist with many people who know him, I am simply helping him by telling the public about him. Please, do NOT delete Green Andy, As i am STILL EDITING THIS PAGE. Get back to me on this. I am your father. 15:21, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey... sorry I got so mad.

Hey. Here's my predicament.

I know the artist, he is very very popular, and has performed all over the U.S. and Canada. I am trying to create a page for him just to INFORM the greater body of wikipedians and non-wikipedians alike. Now, after an Hour of work, I have had my page, still in progress, deleted by Another user. I see what you mean by "creating the article before you post it", yet I just wated to see if it would work, and the preveiw button wasn't showing up. So, I tried, but I'm going to take your sage advice to heart. Thats all, thanks. I am your father. 15:45, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Fourth Wall

Howdy. If you have to remove it, that's fine - they're not very popular yet. There really isn't a whole lot of information available to make a hearty Wiki article anyway.

Evacuated Solar Tubes deleted?

Hello all, do not really know if this is the correct place to ask... we started to write an entry on a very interesting subject, it was then marked for deletion... we then had to add something to the top to stop it being deleted, it was deleted then the talk page entry about the subject was deleted too??? Can anyone advise what we are doing wrong please?--Candymutt 16:17, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey - It's Me - You Just Deleted Nezdar

Hiya. Thanks for the quick delete and the talk message. I was just wondering your basis for the deletion. In our school, Nezdar is a mythical creature believed in by, I'd say, 20% of the population. I figured I'd create a Wikipedia article about it. I figure this article is no different from those on Bigfoot or the Nessie, it just applies to a much smaller group of people. There is nothing offensive to anybody in particular, it's just a myth that me and my friends made up and like to believe in as something fun. If you think that this is not basis enough to keep my Nezdar page, then thank you for your time. Please write back! Nezdar 21:55, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PutVote.com

Hi, Thanks for the note about the speedy deletion on PutVote. I have added a Hangon tag to it, and hope to add some significant content to it later tonight. I believe it will add value to those searching for information about Social Bookmarking, because PutVote is one of the most popular Indian bookmarking/social software sites. --Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan

I find the page has been deleted. Oh well. --Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan
Thank you! Will create a sub-page and work on it. -Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan 06:47, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Murphy page

Hello, I created this bio page for the recently deceased podcaster Joe Murphy. I dont understand why do you think it should be deleted. Is a work in progress, and the basic biographical info will be there soon. Please let me know what the problem is and I'll do my best to edit it. Also, this is my first contribution to wikipedia, so I'm sorry if I made some stupid mistake.

--Mklopez 21:53, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback. The page is a community effort from the fans of Joe, so it might take a day or two until all the bio data is in place from all the contributors. Is that acceptable? I really dont have much idea about the accepted timelines for completing new articles.

I see you put the "up for deletion" box back. It clearly states that I should remove it if I think the article deserves to stay - which I do and have argued for on the discussions page. --dllu 23:02, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know it's good Wikipedia behaviour to leave comments to justify your edits etc. Frankly I'm surprised to see someone who calls himself a "patroller" and apparently feels he has some special responsibility, disregard that rule so blatantly. --dllu 23:20, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am just wondering why i could not create an article about a band. its not like this will make us famous. we dont need wikipedia for that. it is dumb. when there are things all over this website that makes no sense. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Slightreturn756‎ (talkcontribs).
