This is a very, very marginal article for two reasons:

  • 1. Octopus is only seldom part of the average Maldivian diet, which is based on fish. Octopus is not even abundant on the Maldivian reefs and was traditionally only eaten when fish was scarce owing to a bad fishing season.
  • 2. The recipe on which the article is based is not even the most traditional or widespread way of preparing octopus in Maldives, which would be hanaakurun, as every Maldivian knows.
  • It would be better if this article is deleted from Wikipedia and articles on relevant dishes of Maldivian cuisine such as gulhaa, bōkiba, kirugarudiya or masroshi are created instead.183.89.134.223 (talk) 02:44, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ecological concern

Besides the reasons above, this article should not be seen as irresponsibly encouraging larger-scale octopus fishing in the Maldives.

Despite an apparent abundance on Maldivian reefs, non-traditionally fished populations of marine organisms as octopus are vulnerable. Unregulated Giant clam fishery in the Maldives began in 1990 and in only one year the population crashed on fished reefs.             • I am Maldivian but never heard about this dish. It appears to be a significant local dish from the sources given by lonely planet, but not written by Maldivian. Let maldivians talk and not let others tell us what is significant.
