Category for the shared cuisine of the Anglosphere

[edit]

The cuisines of the Anglosphere, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have many shared dishes, for example:

Of course, those aren't equally popular in all countries, and many are also made in other countries. But they do form a coherent whole. With our current categories, these need to be categorized as being members of all the countries, that is:

Category:British cuisine
Category:Irish cuisine
Category:American cuisine
Category:Canadian cuisine
Category:Australian cuisine
Category:New Zealand cuisine
Category:South African cuisine

which seems silly. There is at least one article, Sunday Roast, where a dish is additionally categorized as

Category:British-Australian culture
Category:British-New Zealand culture
Category:British-Canadian culture
Category:British-South African culture

So I suggest that we define a category for the shared dishes of the Anglosphere. The name of the category could be:

Category:Cuisine of the Anglosphere
Category:Cuisine of the British diaspora

In Australia, it is sometimes called Anglo-Celtic cuisine[1][2] but that is not used in other countries as far as I can tell. Discussion? --Macrakis (talk) 22:59, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Anchovy essence

[edit]

Could someone (perhaps in the UK) please upload an image of anchovy essence for the article? Thank you so much if you can help. Oh, a bottle pouring some onto a tablespoon would be great! That would really show the consistency and colour. Yay! I mean Yuck! Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:16, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

https://www.britishfoodinamerica.com/Our-Recipes/Sauces/Anchovy-essence/ has a recipe for making your own, but I'm unfamiliar with it myself. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:49, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
WhatamIdoing, hello! Hey, what are you doing? We need an image, not a recipe!! You wouldn't happen to have a bottle in your fridge, would you? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:12, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'd never even heard of it, and searching for information turned up the recipe but not a seller. I'm curious about it, though. WhatamIdoing (talk) 05:46, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I thank you kindly for your efforts nonetheless, my friend. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:18, 11 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The natural flavor comes through the machine.Breyers ice cream was good and enjoyment Finally they add ice cream flavors. ~2026-12358-0 (talk) 20:56, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Cocktail recipes

[edit]

Given how much trouble we've had over the years with keeping cocktail recipes out of articles, I was surprised to learn today that b:Category:Recipes for cocktails at Wikibooks only has eight recipes. If anyone wants to write up a few favorites, then I suggest using b:Cookbook:White Russian Cocktail as a model. Sources aren't usually required, and they use Title Case instead of our Sentence case, but beyond that, I think most editors here will have an easy time figuring out how to contribute there.

You can see one way to link to these recipes in our articles. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:40, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move at Talk:Breadstick#New title

This exists, but it hasn't been popular in decades, and searches online show a lack of significant coverage. Can we merge this somewhere? Bearian (talk) 11:42, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
