Two Mount Kearsarges

[edit]

with two mountains of the same name in the same state, we're going to have some article-naming problems. The wikipedia-logical thing to do is turn this into a disambiguation page, pointing to Mount Kearsarge (Whatever town it's in) and Mount Kearsarge (whatever town IT'S in) but that's pretty clumsy. Any thoughts? - DavidWBrooks 23:37, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We could just follow USGS: summits named Kearsarge, and have Mount Kearsarge, Kearsarge North, and Kearsarge Peak. "Kearsarge North" sounds like a train station, but...

As the comment below about the Paskell image notes, the problem with that is nobody actually calls it Kearsarge North, and if they see it on at a disambiguation page they won't know what mountain it refers to. It might be technically accurate, but it'll be useless for readers.- DavidWBrooks 17:51, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I like the first suggestion for two articles: Mount Kearsarge (Warner, NH) and Mount Kearsarge (Bartlett, NH). JJ 17:38, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I agree that it's time to split this into two articles. Let me recommend Mount Kearsarge (Merrimack County, New Hampshire) and Mount Kearsarge (Carroll County, New Hampshire), because on each mountain, the town line crosses very close to the summit (i.e. only half of the southern Kearsarge is in Warner, and only half the northern Kearsarge is in Bartlett). Okay, I've moved this one and made a stub for Mount Kearsarge (Carroll County, New Hampshire).

[edit]

To add to the confusion, the image of the painting by William Paskell is Kearsarge North. Of course, the locals just call the peak (as Paskell did) Mount Kearsarge. I have changed to title on the image to make it clear which Kearsarge it is. JJ 17:32, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since it's the wrong image, I removed it. You might want to add something to the image description on en: or commons: (or both?). I guess the viewpoint is looking south along the Saco River, somewhere between Glen and North Conway.

I believe the view is looking northeast from North Conway. Also, please see additional information at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:WPaskell%2CMountKearsargeinSpring%28JJH-WFP301%29.jpg. JJ 18:40, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. So that's Kearsarge Brook? But that ridge from the closer mountain doesn't seem to match the topo map.
