NGS data

[edit]

I changed the data to that supplied by the National Geodetic Survey. I think this data is the most accurate currently available. NGS supplies NAVD88 elevations which are usually greater than the older NGVD29 elevations found on most topographic maps, although the diference is not great at this location, only 3 feet. The data sheet I used is THAYER 2 RESET (HS4915). The original station was destroyed during construction. The military likes to grade off mountain tops they use and consequently the mountain looses some elevation. The NGS station that was replaced by the reset was THAYER (HS4908) and that data sheet recorded an elevation of 3485.7 feet. So it looks like they took 6.7 feet or so off the top. –droll [chat]
