[edit]Edit request partially implemented
- The published item along with
{{ISBN}}
and{{OCLC}}
identifiers was added in a Bibliography section. - The claim regarding the First Amendment Clarity Award was not added because the award is not independently notable in Wikipedia.
- The claim regarding The Hillman Prize was added to the article for the opposite reason. This claim was modified to note that the award was in recognition of Atencio and 77 other individuals in a team headed by Jacob Soboroff and Julia Ainsley as the two primary award recipients.

[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Information to be added or removed: Mariana Atencio is an award-winning journalist, author and public speaker. Explanation of issue: entry currently only describes her as a correspondent for MSNBC. - Unencyclopedic, WP:NOTCV. --Zefr (talk) 18:53, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
- Add Mariana Atencio TEDx Talk to Intro
Information to be added or removed: Mariana Atencio is a TEDx speaker. Her talk "What Makes You Special?" has been seen over 9.8 million times and translated to 9 languages. Explanation of issue: entry does not include this key bio fact, the TEDx organization actually ranks her talk among the 10 most watched Tedx talks on Youtube. Other Tedx speakers , like Brené Brown, have similar information. - TEDx is not an encyclopedic source; also applying, Wikipedia is WP:NOTCV. --Zefr (talk) 18:51, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
- I agree with Zefr on both counts. As far as the TED talk, I would normally consider adding this type of information if it was referenced by a reliabe source unaffiliated with the subject. And while NBC News is a reliable source, they are affiliated with the subject by being her employer (through MSNBC). I'd also like to add on a minor issue of housekeeping, if the COI editor receives, or expects to receive, compensation for any contribution they make, they must disclose their employer, client, and affiliation to comply with Wikipedia's terms of use and the policy on paid editing. So it's a good idea to have that disclosure filled out before making requests. The COI editor may make this disclosure either on their own main page or their own talk page. Lastly, only one
{{request edit}}
template is needed to be placed. Its location should be directly under the level 2 heading you create, like this: - ==Request edit==
{{request edit}}
- Please change the first sentence ....etc.
- Thank you! Regards, Spintendo 21:59, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

- Yes, TEDx shouldn't be used to promote a person. I think it should be added as an external link at most. The article should focus on how this person contributed to Venezuelan-American journalism rather than on her awards and businesses. PalabrasLogos (talk) 15:29, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
CV content; peacock presentation
[edit]This edit was reverted because Manija Digital appears to be promoting the person with curriculum vitae and peacock information, WP:NOTCV and WP:PEA. Opening this discussion for other editors to review and discuss per WP:CON. Some of the content is usable, but not content unsupported by WP:RS. Also warning Manija Digital about edit warring and WP:PROMO. --Zefr (talk) 15:14, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Manija Digital: rather than making the mass, resume-like changes you want for the article, let's follow WP:MOSBIO, and go through what you feel are substantive, well-sourced content section by section: 1) lead, 2) early life, 3) career, 4) personal life, 5) bibliography. It is not helpful that you are edit warring without discussion and consensus. --Zefr (talk) 02:46, 23 November 2019 (UTC)
- Agree, the article should stay away from WP:NOTCV and WP:PEA. PalabrasLogos (talk) 15:26, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
Arbitrary reversion
[edit]This edit was reverted arbitrarily The user Zefr arbitrarily reversed the article that presents new and relevant information about Marina Atencio. The article is written in neutral tone and all information referenced with quality external links. Please leave the article that is complete and updated to contribute to the quality of information shown on wikipedia.
- I'm contributing to a lot of biographies about Spanish speakers and am expanding English articles where the Spanish ones are longer. I see there's been a long history of people editing the article, and agree with Zefr that WP:MOSBIO needs to be followed and WP:PEACOCK and CV-type material removed. What I'm doing simply here is translating what's already in the Spanish version and tweaking some things here and there. A lot of outdated things need to be fixed. PalabrasLogos (talk) 15:25, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the work. This looks better for neutrality and sources. I'll keep on watch for anything further. --Zefr (talk) 18:25, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
Spanish adaptation
[edit]I'm adding content from the Spanish version. This is just what I'm translating and adapting. Some of the content may eventually need to be trimmed down to conform to WP:NOTCV and WP:MOSBIO, but please don't revert yet. Let's use this additional content as a starting point, and then do some copywriting.
Last time some other users had tried to add promotional content. [1] I wouldn't add WP:PEA sentences like:
- She was named one of AdWeeks’s Young Influentials 40 under 40 in November 2019.
- Her second Tedx talk “What Makes You Special” has been viewed more than 10.7 million times.
There may be some additional content (perhaps some WP:PEA content that I didn't notice right away) which I had translated and adapted from the Spanish version, and needs to be revised, or excluded.

Early life and Education
- Text to replace the 2nd paragraph of this section:
Atencio grew up attending Merici Academy, a local Catholic school in Caracas, while keeping up with her English abroad.1 She has studied at Choate Rosemary Hall2 3, Georgetown University, the London School of Economics, UCLA4, and has a Bachelor's degree in Communications from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas5. When Hugo Chavez rose to power and shutdown the RCTV television station, she protested with other students as part of the movement for democracy.6
In 2008, when Atencio was 23 years old, she was assaulted by a man on a hiking trail because of rising violence in Venezuela.7 The attack, which she recounted in her book, led to her migrating to the United States on a scholarship from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she graduated with a Master's degree.5 10 years later, she received the First Decade Award from Columbia University for her work as a journalist.8

Not done - most of the description provided is promotional detail for content already existing, WP:PROMO, and does not meet notability guidelines, WP:N. There are no sources offered that are WP:RS. The MSNBC ref is written by her. Youtube and podcasts are non-notable and non-RS, WP:YT. Zefr (talk) 21:03, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I am trying to further describe Mariana and her career on this page. I am not trying to actively promote her as a personality or a speaker, but rather just add more details about her life and successes. I tried to be really cautious to not overly promote her profile and I thought I hadn't. Would you be able to help me by explaining a bit better what exactly promotes her within the text that was added? I have seen very similar claims on other pages and thought I was following all rules. If at all possible, please help me with an example of what you mean and how it can be fixed. I would love to be able to complete this according to guidelines.
- Thanks in advance, EH0009 (talk) 14:35, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- It is plain as day that your client and you are trying to use Wikipedia for promotion of her story and career. If you have objective WP:SECONDARY sources to suggest, you should provide them here on the talk page for other editors to review.
- As you have stated on your user page, it appears that your only purpose in becoming an editor on Wikipedia is to serve your client, which is not only a strict case of WP:COI, but is also WP:ADVOCACY and WP:SPA, the combination of which will get you blocked from editing if you continue down this path.
