I just added back the Categories "Spree shootings" and "Massacres in the United States". They had been removed without explanation. Please explain the rationale for removing them before doing so again. Thanks. --Art Smart (talk) 11:10, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since Category:Spree shootings in the United States is a subcat of Category:Spree shootings, only the more specific one is needed. Dunno about the other category. --Rividian (talk) 20:24, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
When I look at Category:Spree shootings, this article does not appear. I have to drill down through Category:Spree shootings in the United States to see it. That may be how the system works, but is that what is intended? Seems to me when a person goes to the Category:Spree shootings page, all spree shootings should appear in the list down below, not just the ones not present in a subcategory. --Art Smart (talk) 07:08, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know it's intended to work that way... the sub-categories appear at the top, so a reader will presumably think to click on the specific one for articles on the specific sorts of spree killing articles he or she is browsing for. Maybe this system makes more sense for categories like Category:Mountain ranges and Category:Rivers but it's the same concept... more specific sub-cats replace the generic parent one. --Rividian (talk) 12:53, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
