Auckland land ring

Accusations of involvement in the Auckland land ring ran during the late 1870s and until he left politics in the 1880s, including a libel case he lost saying "Whitaker and friends, mentioned in the article, that they had some dirty work to do connected with land speculations". Where would be the best place to insert these references in this article, or would they fit better in another article? Relevant sources include -
