Flying Tigers

Harry Moyer (103) and Mel McMullen (98) are still alive so shall we remove the flying tiger on this list? Eoin DAMM (talk) 12:42, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a citation for that? Bkatcher (talk) 13:27, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly seems like the reference should be removed. Bkatcher (talk) 14:54, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
According to the official rosters, neither Moyer or McMullen were ever part of the Flying Tiger. I believe this goes back to there were part of the unit that descended from the AVG but were not officially Flying Tigers. https://flyingtigersavg.com/complete-roster-of-the-avg/ Feickus (talk) 19:22, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Surviving WWII vets

Richard Trowbridge surviving WWII vet, Navy. Born August 2, 1927. 131.93.158.131 (talk) 16:06, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What is his notability? This list is for people who are the last of a particular unit, last survivors of a particular battle, etc. Bkatcher (talk) 19:47, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Keith "Chook" Fowler (1920-2023), last living member of the Australian 2.3rd Machine Gun Battalion & one of the last living Australian prisoner of war [POW] of the Thai/Burma death railway during the Japanese occupation of the country.

Warsaw Uprising

He probably isn’t alive, but if Stanisław Aronson is alive would he count as a Warsaw uprising veteran? Eoin DAMM (talk) 18:10, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes he is alive as of 2023, he is 98 years old Mryellowredgreen (talk) 02:52, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WW2 survivor

Dick Van Dyke

I was looking at the reference for the Dick Van Dyke, and nothing mentions he is the last of the unit. I can't find any information on the the special services unit that says he was the last. So I am leaning towards removing him. Feickus (talk) 17:48, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. I've removed him. pburka (talk) 23:35, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

107 year old WWII Vet inclusion request

My father-in-law, William Monfort just celebrated his 107th birthday. Here's the link to one of his local news interviews: https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-pinellas/tampa-bay-area-wwii-veteran-celebrates-107th-birthday Donalexander2 (talk) 02:37, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations. Is he the last surviving member of a notable group of veterans? pburka (talk) 05:36, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Impossible to say because of privacy policies, but not many live to that age. He did survive a kamikaze attack, and he was the first on his ship to hear the Japanese were attacking Pearl Harbor since he was the radio operator.

What is your rationale for adding him to this specific list? pburka (talk) 14:56, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

102 year old WWII Survivor

Robert Hanley born 2/6/1922 still alive one of last know USS Houston survivors US Navy United States

This article generally deals with the very last survivor, not one of the last.Bkatcher (talk) 19:45, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

surviving WWII vets

My father Bernard V. Long is a WWII veteran. Born 12-31-17. He is alive and well. He was a Sargeant in the army seved in the 660th engineers Real estate 9078 (talk) 20:06, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid he does not meet the notability requirements for this article. There are still thousands of living veterans, and the ones we include here are the last survivors of a specific force, battle, operation, etc. But please thank him for his service. Bkatcher (talk) 13:55, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

100th Bomb group inclusion

John Luckadoo is noted as the last survivor of the 100th bomb group. However there are at-least 3 more members alive; Robert ‘Bob’ Wolfe, Henry ‘Hank’ Cervantes and Jim Rasmussen. All of them were at the premiere of Masters of the Air only 2 weeks ago. Eoin DAMM (talk) 14:34, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Could you give us a citation? Bkatcher (talk) 14:55, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Eoin. We have proof with the CBS site, but and this not a question for you but everyone. Do we want to use social media as a citation? I am leaning towards no. Looking for everyone else's thoughts. Feickus (talk) 13:05, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Normally no. But it seems the source that stated John Luckadoo as the last veteran of the 100th bomb group was wrong, and CBS shows that. Eoin DAMM (talk) 20:29, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women SOE agents to serve in France

Phyllis Latour is widely cited as the last female SOE agent to serve in France and died in October last year. however the BBC posted a article about the death of Nicola Trahan, a female SOE agent who served in France. Id like others to have a look at the article to see if we should change Latour to Trahan https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-68166260.amp Eoin DAMM (talk) 16:06, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This does seem well supported by reliable sources. In other similar cases we've added a note to the entry explaining who else had previously been identified as the last survivor. pburka (talk) 17:33, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
