Discrepancy
[edit]This article says that this was the first big solo single by George M. but in the box on the right it says it is a wham album.

Careless Whisper is actually a solo single released by George Michael when he was still an active member of Wham! (it appears as a single on Wham's Make it Big album) . It was credited as Wham and George Michael in the USA. George Michael's official website credits Careless Whisper to George Michael and seeing as the UK release was 6 months earlier than the US release, shouldn't the song be credited as a george Michael solo song with a note saying in the US it was credited as Wham and George Michael?98.198.229.222 (talk) 08:39, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Multiple info boxes
[edit]There apears to be a small issue over the existance of two info boxes in this article. Its worth refering to [[1]] to determine if multiple boxes are relivant.
I've not read the section in detail but I have seen some pages where the second info box is included to support text with in the article. My view would support that. So, if there is detailed text discussing the Bannanarama version then the box should stay, otherwise the box should go. Please note, this is my own view and there may be policies/guidelines that may affect the situation.

- Irrespective of policy, I'm astonished that the Bananarama box is in there. They may have done the song (not that anyone noticed) but it has so little to do with them that I would suggest its imemdiate removal. Bentley Banana 08:25, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Philippine Scandal Revives Song
[edit]Would it be appropriate to add references to it being the theme song of a current sex scandal in the Philippines? The event has caused a resurgence in radio airplay because of the participants in the aforementioned scandal singing the song while his partner danced to its beat. Phrygian
[edit]I think much of the riff's unique flavor comes from it being in the phrygian mode. Interesting to know ;) --logixoul 15:41, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Sergio Flores cover
[edit]Should a list item be added somewhere for the infamous "Sexy Sax Man" cover by Sergio Flores? It has over 21 million views on YouTube. timothymh (talk) 21:30, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Careless Whisper was originally a solo song, here are the facts
[edit]I have changed this before, yet again, it has been changed. Careless Whisper was originally released as a solo George Michael single and then credited as Wham! featuring George Michael in some countries. George Michael was still performing in Wham! at the time and was included in the Wham! Album, Make it Big, which was released several months after the single.
The sources for this are numerous:
The picture on this page of the UK single, which clearly states “George Michael” only.
The official video on YouTube. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=izGwDsrQ1eQ
George Michael’s official Facebook page. https://m.facebook.com/pg/georgemichael/about/?ref=page_internal&mt_nav=0
The official website of the UK music charts. https://www.officialcharts.com/artist/3/george-michael/
It was listed in the discography of the official George Michael website but at the moment, the website is entirely about a recent auction of George’s art collection.
I’m not saying that there should be no mention of the song being released under a different credit in some nations and it should be noted that Andrew Ridgeley co-wrote the track. But the initial release was solely as a George Michael single and the page should reflect that.

- We should be looking at WP:Reliable sources instead of Facebook or YouTube, especially since a strong source will be needed to contradict the cited sources saying both Wham members co-wrote the song. Binksternet (talk) 00:10, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
There’s no debate that both Wham! members wrote the song, that’s never been the issue, it’s who the song is performed by and credited to that seems to cause debate. The single and album both credit the song being written to both members of Wham! However, the songwriting shouldn’t be a factor in the credited performer, as every other song on the Wham! album featuring Careless Whisper (with the exception of one cover version) is credited solely as being written by Michael. In fact, nearly all the Wham! original songs were written solely by Michael.
The Facebook and YouTube sources I listed are the official page of George Michael and the official video, not just random pages. There is also the photo of the UK single featured in this article which clearly shows it is performed by George Michael. I’ve also included a link on the official website of the UK charts, which again credits the song as performed as a solo piece. Surely the official website of the UK charts is a pretty reliable source?
Again, I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be a mention of the song being credited to Wham! featuring George Michael in some markets, and I was actually the person who put that point in this very article a decade ago.31.53.39.94 (talk) 04:18, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
- I'm still not sure whether it should be listed as a George Michael-only song or Wham song. If this is indeed Ridgeley's official Twitter account, his statement should be considered: "For the record, I wasn't 'added' to the writing credits, I co-wrote it & co-writers are always credited". Kailash29792 (talk) 04:20, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
I’m going to repeat myself here but the discussion is not who wrote the song, there has never been any debate over the writing of the song and was always credited to being written by both Michael and Ridgeley. It’s who the performance of the song is credited to. Are all (or the vast majority) of Elton John songs performed by Elton John and Taupin? No, they’re all performed by Elton John. It states in those articles that the song was written by John and Taupin, just like this page clearly states that the song was written by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. 31.51.17.80 (talk) 22:03, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
- You're changing your story now, trying to deny that you were previously pushing for the song to called a Michael-only song, when it's a Wham! song. Why don't you cite some sources when you put forward one of your arguments? You'll get nowhere until you show that WP:Reliable sources are representing the song a certain way. Binksternet (talk) 00:40, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
I’m not changing anything, I’ve never said that the song should be credited as being written by Michael alone. I’m saying the song is by George Michael. And when I use I word the word “by” I mean as in “it’s performed by” or who it’s “recorded by” rather than “written by”. I’m not sure what else I can do to say this. Another example would be the page here for “Hey Jude”, it states that it “is a song by The Beatles” but it then goes on to state it was written by McCartney and credited to the Lennon/McCartney partnership. I have provided sources, including that of the official UK charts company that show the song is performed by George Michael. If that isn’t a reliable source then I’m not sure what is. The picture on this very page of the single cover clearly shows no mention of anyone other than George Michael. I could also point to IMDB which on the page for the film Deadpool has Careless Whisper in its soundtrack listing, it says “by George Michael” and then credits the songwriting to Michael and Ridgeley but I’d probably be told that isn’t a reliable source either. Can I ask where are the reliable sources that say this was only ever released as a Wham! song? There was no previous argument that it was credited in some territories as being by George Michael alone or by Wham! featuring George Michael in others, this point was clearly stated in the article. Now there is no mention of it being released by George Michael anywhere, even though the picture of the single on this article shows that it clearly was. Maybe this source is acceptable as it is by the BBC, who are usually regarded as a reputable source? http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/soldonsong/songlibrary/carelesswhisper.shtml 31.51.17.80 (talk) 02:41, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
A few more sources to back up that the song was released solely by George Michael in some countries... https://nztop40.co.nz/chart/index?chart=3117 (Official site of the New Zealand music charts) https://www.ariacharts.com.au/news/2016/this-week-in-1984-(1) (Official site of the Australian music charts) https://www.offiziellecharts.de/suche (Official site of the German music charts) 81.151.210.49 (talk) 03:59, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Spanish crooner recorded a cover of Careless Whisper in his 2006 album Romantic Classics. This should be incluye in the cover section of the article as he is one of the best selling artists of all time. 176.83.32.33 (talk) 18:18, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
