It may not have been the same product, but the same brand name was widely available (and frequently drunk) in Thailand at least as early as 1970. Ask any of the thousands of Americans who were in Thailand at the time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xiengkhouang (talkcontribs)

I'm going to have to cry foul on this as well. When I was a youngster (9 to 12 years of age), we lived in Bangkok (1964 - 1968). My father drank Mekhong whiskey, and so did his buddies. Further, they complained about the hangover's resulting from it. They drank other brands as well. Beers consumed were usually Singha or some GI imported Buds. In my minds eye I always recalled the spelling to be Mekong vice Mekhong, but I could be mistaken.
