"...handed over to the British"

Can a specialist in this area of World War II history explain why he was "handed over to the British" after the war? The entry as written doesn't appear to say that he died in hospital while awaiting prosecution for anything. Thanks (71.22.47.232 (talk) 11:30, 28 December 2010 (UTC))[reply]
