Pirithus and Piraeus
[edit]Pirithus (or preciously, Peirithus), king of Lapithes, has the same etymology with Pireaus (or preciously Peirae-eus), harbor of Attica. What's the connection between them?
Note: Theseus, king of Athens in Attica and Pirithus are friends (or else allies).

- Most likely they are related through a common Pre-Greek origin; something like *paryawy- which in Greek became Peirai-; see p.30 of Beekes' paper. --Omnipedian (talk) 08:32, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
