[edit]

!!Spoiler Alert!!
I think it may be worthwhile to discuss how this episode is reminiscent of 2 movies:
1) "2001" written by Arthur Clarke in 1968 http://imdb.com/title/tt0062622/
2) "Wargames" written by Lawrence Lasker & Walter F. Parkes in 1983 http://imdb.com/title/tt0086567/

The reason is: HAL in 2001 is a renegade computer that takes over and then kills people before being disabled -- just like the M5 in "The Ultimate Computer".
And in "Wargames", the computer is unable to distinguish between a game and a real-life situation.

Copyedit responding to request to shorten Plot

[edit]

I did a basic copyedit, reducing the length without any significant changes to the meaning. Responding to the tag to "shorten or make less detailed", a couple details incidental to the plot were cut. A rewrite was not really necessary.
