causa sui (pronounced[ˈkau̯.saˈsʊ.iː]; transl. cause of itself, self-caused) is a Latin phrase that refers to a philosophical concept central to Benedict Spinoza's thought. It refers to the only substance that has its reason for existing within itself, i.e. God.
