Bessatsu Margaret (別冊マーガレット, Bessatsu Māgaretto, "Margaret additional volume"), or Betsuma (別マ) for short, is a shōjo manga magazine published monthly in Japan by Shueisha since 1964.[3][4][5]
About
Bessatsu Margaret was first launched in 1964, as a sister magazine to Margaret. The stories featured in Bessatsu Margaret are noted to have an emphasis on character growth, focusing on themes of interpersonal relationships and settings of everyday life.[1]
The magazine targets readers in junior high, high school, and university.[6] In 2018, its age demographic consisted of 12.7% of readers 14 years or under, 16% for 15–18 years old, 15.1% for 19–23 years old, and 56.2% of readers 24 years or older.[7]
In 2018, Bessatsu Margaret had an average circulation of 131,000 copies.[7] In 2019, the circulation dropped to an average of 95,000,[8] and in 2020 sales further declined to an average of 68,000 copies.[2]
The magazine was ranked 5th in the list for female readers in the 2012 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook,[9] and 2nd in the same list for the 2014 edition.[10] It ranked 16th among all manga magazines in the 2018 edition,[11] and 18th in the 2019 edition.[12]
