Glycemic index
[edit]I think the article should discuss the higher glycemic index (total rise in blood glucose) of added sugar as compared to the equivalent amount of sugar in, say, fruit. Loraof (talk) 21:08, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
About US-centrism
[edit]Although added sugar consumption in America should be included, since currently the obesity percentage in America is the highest among developed country, this article should at least include added sugar consumption per capita in other countries as well. And countries whose added sugar consumption per capita exceed America's should have independent sections, since such details are useful for Wikipedians.--RekishiEJ (talk) 06:22, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
Merge to Free sugar
[edit]"Definitions of added and free sugars differ mainly in their respective exclusion or inclusion of sugars in juiced or pureed fruit and vegetables. To date, there has been little evidence-based analysis of the scientific basis for these different sugar classifications or implications of their adoption for consumer communication and nutrition labeling." - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5916432/

- The merge seems sound, given the relatedness of the concepts, but the current text very much fails to make any distinction between the two, and flips between them in a way as to add to the confusion. Also of course honey and natural syrups are necessarily 'free', but don't seem to be always counted as "added". 109.255.211.6 (talk) 11:02, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
