The Pan-African University of the Congo (UPAC) is a public higher education institution in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, based in Kinshasa, the capital city.

History

UPAC was officially established in 2010 by Ministerial Decree No. 004 MINESU/CABMIN/MNL/DESP/KOB/2010.[citation needed]

The university opened its doors on 12 November 2011, with three faculties: law, economics & management, and science & technology, along with an additional program in architecture. Its opening marked a first in the DRC, launched on the LMD system (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate)[2].

On 16 September 2014, the university laid the foundation stone for its second site in the Kinshasa metropolis, at 42 12th Street, Cité Verte, Mont Ngafula[3].

Academics

UPAC aims for high-quality education with an innovative and open vision, responding to the government's call for greater internationalization of the Congolese university system. Following the LMD system (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate), the university uses the credit system to allow students to change their courses during the year or transfer to another Congolese or foreign university without losing their accumulated academic credits.

UPAC's programs are also structured on a semester basis: exams are organized at the end of each semester (twice per academic year)[2].

Additional Information

The Pan-African University of the Congo (UPAC) has a physical library, a virtual library, an internal email system for its professors and students, and a Facebook page.
