- At the International Olympic Committee meeting before the start of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, it is announced that the French Alps region has gotten conditional approval to host the 2030 Winter Olympic Games, and that Salt Lake City, Utah will host the 2034 Winter Olympic Games (Salt Lake City has previously hosted the Winter Games before, in 2002; France last hosted the Winter Games in 1992 in Albertville).
