Månegarm

Månegarm is a Swedish Viking/Black Metal band from Norrtälje. The band's name comes from Mánagarmr, a wolf in Norse mythology.

History

The band started from the ideas of Svenne Rosendal, Jonas Almquist, and Pierre Wilhelmsson in 1995. After securing another guitarist in Mårten Matsson and a drummer in Erik Grawsiö, they began rehearsing as "Antikrist". By 1996 they had changed their name to Månegarm and early that year they began recording, Vargaresa. Afterward Svenne and Mårten would leave the band and be replaced by Markus Andé and Jonny Wranning. With this line up, in February 1997, they went into Sunlight studios to record their next demo tape, Ur Nattvindar, which included violins and female vocals for the first time. This demo got the attention of Displeased Records, who they signed with. But another member would leave, Johnny, and be replaced by Viktor Hemgren. At the end of the year they would go again into Sunlight studios to record their first full-length album, Nordstjärnans Tidsålder.

In the summer of 1999 they would begin recording their next album, Havets Vargar. Because of some difficulty with the recording studio, they took some time off of recording the album. During this time off Viktor Hemgren was fired but instead of finding a new vocalist Erik assumed the duties, along with his drumming. Also during this time Janne Liljekvist was added as a full member. With the line up now solidified they would finish recording the album and release it in 2000.

2004, saw the re-release of the early demos and the recording of a new album, Vredens Tid (Age of Wrath), which was released in 2005.

In 2006 the band recorded a completely acoustic folk music EP, Urminnes Hävd (The Forest Sessions). During this year they would leave Displeased records and sign with Black Lodge. And towards the end of 2006 they would record their latest album, Vargstenen, which was released in early 2007.
