I'm learning the ropes here, so thank you for your patience! My understanding was that short quotes could be used if they were cited. I placed the information in quote and included a citation. Is there more I need to do than that? GracieRuth 06:03, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a rule, no. CSBot might simply have gotten a bit trigger-happy if the quotations are a significant part of the new article (something to watch out for), but if they are properly attributed it's normally not a problem. You might want to read up the copyright policies to double check, but human reviewers look after what the bot notices and tend to be much smarter than a program can be about quotations.  :-) — Coren (talk) 06:09, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)

Coren, It said that this article was infringement of copyright, but actually it is just the lyrics to the song, so it is the same on every website. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Septemberpillow (talkcontribs) 16:07, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. The problem is, lyrics are copyrighted and cannot be put on Wikipedia at all unless in the public domain or explicitely licensed in a way that is compatible with the GFDL. — Coren (talk) 21:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, I had cut and pasted a biography and was in the process of re-writing it when this bot snagged my drafts. It should be fine now after ample revisions.

I may have created the article but didn't copy the information from perfectblend.net I moved the article to a more fitting page description. I'll put up a notice about a rewrite.

The only content in http://www.yellowpecora.net/cccp/socialismo_barbarie.html is the track listing for the album "Socialismo e Barbarie" by the Italian punk rock band CCCP

No, your bot is not confused. I did copy text from Louisville and Nashville Railroad Depot, in order to transform that specific page into a list of other L&N Depots. The one that was listed had a link to a List of Registered Historic Places in Illinois. ---- DanTD 19:21, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help I am new here.

I received the following: This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of New york state association of auxiliary police, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.auxiliary-police.org/. I am the President & Webmaster of NYSAAP.

Please allow this article to be started.

I will work on it more.

Thank You

Free Agent Crew

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Free Agent Crew, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.triplejunearthed.com/Artists/View.aspx?ArtistId=655. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 00:19, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

I have no idea what this means????

It means you blatantly cut and pasted information from a website, which is a breach of copyright. I have had this done to me once and I had to do more research and rewrite the majority of the article. You can reference it, but you cannot blatantly copy it. -- Macr237 07:37, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok - i created a new page for Free Agent Crew. Didnt cut and paste any info at all. And it has STILL been deleted saying it was about a band/muso ect.... im confused. So you can't put a page up about a band now? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Topcat82 (talkcontribs) 02:05, August 30, 2007 (UTC)

Bridge Conferencing Solutions

MadDogMikey 19:36, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I have just entered details for Bridge Conferencing Solutions.

They specialise in video conferencing and I thought it would be good if the world knew about them.

I got their info from their Company page on their website www.bridgeconference.co.za and simply changed it from 1st person to 3rd person.

The searchbot said this is in violation of copywright as it is pretty close to the info on their website.

Please tell me how to go about rectifying this so that it can be officially entered regardless of where it is being sent from.

Thank you.

The text on the article is not a copyright violation. It is indeed taken from the Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology, which is available online (the text is from here). However, that book is published in 1870, which puts it in the public domain. –RHolton04:49, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article on Shekhsar does not violate copyrights. It has been taken from Jatland.com site. The Jatland has been Attributed that The original text of this article was taken from http://www.jatland.com/home/Godara, and http://www.jatland.com/home/Shekhsar, which is licensed under the GFDL. The Gazette of the United States content

Hi, replying to your bot message, it is correct. However, the duplication was only momentary because I was copying the content of the article The Gazette of the United States, and moving it under the paper's correct name Gazette of the United States (i.e., article renamed to remove the 'The'). I inserted a redirect from the old name to the new, so any links will flow properly. Thanks, and a good bot! GoldenMean 06:04, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your bot tagging Hedydipna - twice in two days. http://www.economicexpert.com/a/Collared:Sunbird.html has copied the collared sunbird page from Wikipedia, not the other way round, and has acknowledged Wikipedia and the GFDL licence at the bottom of the page. Congress

Hey, I'm the guy who had the problem with the bot tagging information from US Congress public domain sites. Anyway, remember how you said human editors are smart enough to understand that the info is ok? Well, I'm already running in to a problem with somebody who just won't take the 5 seconds that're required to find the info on the Congress website. Can you help me straighten this out? Thanks. Mr. Vitale 22:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exclusion Additions to CorenSearchBot

Please see [1]. Can you add http://www.infoplease.com/biography/us/congress (not the whole site, just that particular section) and User:Afil to your bot's ignore list? Over the past few weeks, I have remove quite a number of false matches based upon these.

The Biographical Directory of the United States Congress is a US Government work and, therefore, public domain. Infoplease mirrors the directory and anytime someone creates an entry from the directory, your bot tags and lists it. These articles are getting created quite frequently.

User:Afil has been creating many stubs on rivers. He's using the same basic format for all of them & your bot keeps tagging and listing them. I'm surprised he's not complained to you as he keeps reverting the tags. I've removed quite a few of them from the listing.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. -- JLaTondre 00:04, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent change of MOSNUM

I don't get it. Why is scientific context at issue here?

"Outside of scientific contexts where numerical error may be significant, the number of decimal places should be consistent within a list or context". Tony 04:29, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because significant digits and precision count. 41 is different from 41.0— the former means "some value in [40.5 41.5[" while the latter means "some value in [40.95 41.05[. In a scientific text, changing the number of significant digits changes the meaning. — Coren (talk) 05:32, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Goodbye Gay Meadow

Goodbye Gay Meadow - I am the author of the book and run and maintain the www.goodbyegaymeadow.com site of which I own all the copyrighted material. As a professional photograper who frequently has images stolen off the web I very much appreciate the amazing © copyright stance that wiki adopts. The book is currently being printed. If Wiki do not feature forthcoming releases then I do not mind the page being deleted and I will re-make the page when the book is available next month.

  • Removed the tag. The source was from a public domain and I rephrased the text on WP afterwards. Hope that would do it. If not, please let me know. Untitled by Jpalme

Jpalmejpalme@dsv.su.se 17:42 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I am a very inexperienced writer in Wikipedia, but if I have done things wrongly, please explain how I should do it right. I do not even know for sure how I should go about asking a question in the web page I am writing my question in now. I understand that this is a page where I can get answers to questions, but not how to do it.

I wrote a new article for Wikipedia with the title "Cognitive modules". After this, I get repeated statements that this article is not permissible, because it is based on another web page, http://web4health.info/en/answers/bio-brain-work.htm, which is substantially identical to the Wikipedia article.

However, I understand your rules to say that it is permitted to copy existing web content, if that content is available under the GFDL license. And I have included a note at the end of http://web4health.info/en/answers/bio-brain-work.htm, saying that that page is available under the GFDL license.

Question: Must the indication that a page is available under the GFDL license be in any special format, for example using some special HTML or XML encoding? If so, how should I have done it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpalme (talkcontribs) 16:44, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it doesn't have to be, but it helps CSBot know about it if you use a suitable template, and avoids the notice entirely. As long as it's attributed, however, humans reviewer should notice.
Also, as a rule, the GFDL requires that edition history is preserved; this is most easily done by linking back to the page from which the material was taken. — Coren (talk) 06:06, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jpalmejpalme@dsv.su.se 5 September 2007 12:59 (UTC)

I hope I have done it right now. I added the following text at the bottom of the Wikipedia article:
This article was originally based on material from [[2]], which is licensed under the GFDL.
It seems funny that information about the GFDL license should be in the Wikipedia articles, which anyone can edit, and not in the original article, which only the copyright owner can edit. It seems more secure to have the GFDL information on the original text. But now the GFDL information is in both the Wikipedia article and the original article, so I hope this will prevent the Wikipedia article from getting deleted.

Always Active Technologies

Hi There

The Bot is a bit confused as the text it found (from our home page) was pasted into the forum by an employee trying to describe to a potential job seeker what the company was about. This text has been removed from the Always Active Technologies Wiki page in any case.

thanks,

Hi, your searchbot has identified similarities between this new page I have created and http://quimby.gnus.org/circus/jukebox.php?group=Tsunami&album=The%20Heart's%20Tremolo.

I think this is because both pages have a track listing of the album. May I remove tha tag?

Hi, your bot has said that I have used copyright in the above article. The only bit that is copied is the DVD cover blurb. Other article about documentaries and film copy the official blurb so I didn't think that it would be a problem. Robert C Prenic 10:34, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I LOVE your bot!

Well actually the subject line says it all. Wonderful bot. Of coure it has made a very few errors which are easily resolved, but it has really, really, been a great asset. 11:51, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Well I don't. its doing my head in on certain articles where there is no direct copywright ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 21:46, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK I do think the bot is a great idea but we have to compile an encylopedia using something. It wasn't a copy and paste job I rewrote it but even then it triggered the bot. I'm just trying to buuild an encyclopedia of the greatest depth this is all. But his means leaving out important info because it will be seen as copywright ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 21:59, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CorenSearchBot tells me that SHARE Operating System is a copyvio of http://www.santiago.es/ir.php?var=SHARE_Operating_System. That's wrong, it is instead a direct copy from es:SHARE Operating System prior to translation. Sure enough, http://www.santiago.es/ir.php?var=SHARE_Operating_System says it is "De Wikipedia, la enciclopedia libre". You need to get a better exclusion filter. Security Council Resolutions

Hi

Your bot seems to be repeatedly tagging articles on United Nations Security council resolutions (e.g. United Nations Security Council Resolution 143). As far as I can see there is no copyright violation involved; the articles as (mostly) created by Schrandit are summaries of content in WikiSource. Could you let me know how best to prevent future tagging, as it's a lot of effort to remove your bot's over-enthusiasm. Cheers Chrislintott 10:13, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
