Response to Recent Aida (musical) mods

The list of high school productions was removed because consensus was recently reached regarding the inclusion of high-school/community theatre (ie non-official performances) - it was agreed that high schools and community theatre groups should not be listed on the Aida page, as they have no official association with the proper musical, other than that they have paid license fees to perform the show.

If my edits accidentally removed official productions, my apologies. Otherwise, the removal of high-school musicals from this article is justified in my opinion :)

I have not completed my entry and neither is this written like an advertisement. I do not know how to remove your box, but would you please take it off or tell me how? An encyclopedic entry can contain an opening that is a direct quote as it weaves together a historic narrative account. I am merely citing history here, and if I can get the link to work you'd see where it came from. Having a tough time with the ref. mark for some reason. Thank you for your response. That box was actually borrowed from another Wikipage. I realized after borrowing it that the infobox tag existed. I'll know better next time.
I did use preview quite a bit but was afraid, after a while, it would get lost, as sometimes browsers crash.
I have one question for you regarding citation, and I wonder if you can help me: Some of the material I would like to include in my entry is from a newspaper article found in a subscription database, Lexis Nexis. Unfortunately, it does not appear for free on the Web. I understand Wikipedia's preference for open access information, but I would like to include this with the proper citation. Do you know if Wikipedia has a citational style for citing a full-text article from a subscription database. I am familiar with the MLA and APA styles found on this page, but don't know about style with Wikipedia.
Any ideas?

I'm not sure what the preferred citation method would be. I have seen several articles just include the reference as plain text (no link), such as "New York Times April 1, 2007". Maybe you can ask the question at the Wikipedia:Help desk. A comment about browsers. Without advocating a specific product, I have had excellent results (and no crashes) using Mozilla Firefox, and I know many others use it; can't say the same about Internet Explorer. Thanks for giving me a simple definition of minor, major in Wiki edits. I will conform to policy now that I know it. Until now, my general practice was to save edits regularly, so there is a sequence of smallish steps. I did not think these were considered worthy of "major" status. I will retain the same practice, but default to "major" edit (saves me a key stroke each time). Good for Wiki, good for me. Have a nice day, and thanks heaps for patroling! Yes it does need lots of work. There is no "lottery-stub", the closeset seems to be {{gambling-stub}}. You can find all approved stub tags at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types. Baseball statistics

Truthanado, I hated to revert your new section, since it was clear that your edit was a good faith attempt to improve the article. My understanding of the WP:NOR policy is that editors can gather verifiable facts from primary sources (such as player statistics), but are not allowed to draw new conclusions from the facts. For example, it would be acceptable to look at the data on league leaders and say something like, "From 1945 to 2006, the average number of home runs hit by the league leaders was xx." Anyone interested in verifying that statement could go to the source and verify it. But I can't look at the source you gave and verify a statement like "hitting 30 home runs is good." If someone disagreed and said, "no, I think hitting 20 home runs qualifies as good," and someone else says, "no, 30 home runs isn't that good--40 is good," the source you gave wouldn't be able to verify one statement rather than another--it provides raw information, but doesn't indicate what the standard is. You looked at it and reached your own conclusion, but that doesn't work for an encyclopedia. To say something is good in Wikipedia, you have to be able to cite verifiable sources that have said it is good.

I think there are some sources that make those kinds of statements, and I'll try to look around to see if I can find some. But, especially for a word that involves judgment, like "good," I think Wikipedia requires that you be able to cite a source that actually says it; it can't just be your personal interpretation of the data. Thank you for the input and the discussion. I have created a new "Good statistics" section that does not involve original research. For now, it just has some typical Batting statistics in it. Official World Golf Rankings

Before your edit, the page read "The "Order" column indicates the sequence in which the players first reached number 1." This makes it clear that the numbers in the column indicate the order of those golfers' rise to the number 1 position. Since there was a sentence already dedicated to clarifying the column's meaning, I felt that it did not merit an additional explanation.

Moreover, your additional "clarification" was "For example, Bernard Langer was the first golfer to be ranked number 1, Greg Norman was the third number 1 ranked player." That is not a complete sentence and is written in a colloquial tone. In any case, I appreciate the effort to clarify the meaning, but I feel it is rather clear from the description above. Cheers. I hope I'm not coming off as nitpicky, but you started entering municipal names just as the town instead of "Town of ..." Despite the category link right under the name, I think it's better to have the full "Town of..." or "Village of..." as it maintains a consistent standard that is used on any Geobox I've seen, whether in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Louisiana, etc. What are your thoughts on this? List of school districts in New York

Hi. In List of school districts in New York you added a Norther Region entry. Given that you previously restructured the list of k-12 school districts to comply with SED's Higher Education (college) organization (which I still don't understand why it was used), what are you looking to have placed in the Northern Region entry?

The simple answer is that the Northern Region should contain school districts in Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence counties, as defined in the NYSED Higher Education Planning Regions. However, I am beginning to understand that it is not that simple. A little history, if I may.

When I restructured the list in April 2007, I used the Higher Education Planning Regions (HEPR) because it was the only verifiable breakdown I could find at NYSED (I couldn't find the JMT breakdown you suggested on the article's discussion page). In hindsight, that may have been a mistake, because (as you correctly point out) that breakdown refers to colleges and universities, not elementary and secondary education that school districts deal with. Also, school districts often cover multiple counties, yet the HEPR uses county boundaries.

As further confusion, the List of high schools in New York article is arranged by counties, which doesn't fit well with either the HEPR or JMT grouping. However, if we consider the main user of that article, grouping high schools by county is logical. That's probably how someone would look for a specific high school.

I have done some further research and found info about the Joint Management Team (JMT) areas at NYSED, see [1].

Perhaps it's time to rethink the HEPR breakdown and change it to something more in-line with what the school districts use themselves, the JMT grouping. Let me suggest that we restructure the article to use the JMT BOCES regions you suggested. Either of us could do that, or we could collaborate and share the workload. It would also help the article if we added a reference to the JMT (Joint Management Team), like the one above (or similar). What do you think? I'm all in favor of making Wikipedia better, and it seems to me that restructuring to JMT will do just that.

FYI, the List of BOCES article has been updated to correctly link to all BOCES in New York. That would help identify which school district goes in what region. When we restructure, maybe we should subdivide into BOCES regions too?

For some reason, the cast list on ibdb for Titanic has two different names for Edith Corse Evans. The one I used in the list was the one also listed on the cast album. St Lawrence County Map question

The map that matches the others is there on Commons, just under a slightly different version of the name: Image:Map of New York highlighting Saint Lawrence County.svg. Because the map link is automatically generated based on the name in both the county article and the list of counties, it links to the differently formatted and named map (Image:Map of New York highlighting St. Lawrence County.svg). Eddie McGoldrick

Surnames that begin with "Mc" are supposed to be default sorted as "Mac" for auditing/counting purposes. I have not changed his surname and it still appears as "McGoldrick" - not "MacGoldrick" - if you check the categories. Yours,
