Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Finanzer (talk | contribs) at 15:31, 20 September 2007 (Michail ← Michail). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is for requests to usurp accounts that already exist. If you want your account renamed to a name that is not already taken, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.

This page permits users to request, and bureaucrats to consider and carry out, the "usurpation" of usernames. This consists of renaming an existing dormant account in order to permit another user to adopt the name.

If you wish to request usurpation, please read carefully the "Instructions" section below. Malformed requests waste other users' time, and may not be fulfillable. Be advised, in particular, that the account you want to usurp must have no edits or log entries (except in the username creation log) to qualify for usurpation.

Please do not request usurpation if your user account is less than several months old, or barely used. In order to ensure that usurped usernames be put to good use, we prefer only to grant requests from reasonably well-established users.

Instructions

Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure that the process runs efficiently. Malformed requests waste other users' time.

  • Be sure the account you wish to usurp has no edits or log entries (except in the account creation log).
  • Ensure that it meets the changing usernames guidelines.
  • Log in to your present account.
  • Leave a message on the talk page of the target account (preferably of the form {{subst:usurpation requested}} ~~~~) notifying the user of your request.
Please do not e-mail the target account yourself. If this becomes necessary, a bureaucrat or other designated user will do it.
  • Add your request to this page using the proper template. This may be done via a shortcut (1) or by the traditional method (2):
    • (1) The shortcut: Click this link. Replace "Name_To_Usurp" with the username you wish to usurp, and "Current_Name" with your current username. You may include some reason for the change beneath the template if you wish. Leave the "Subject/headline" field blank.
    • (2) The traditional method: Click "edit this page"; find the section for today's date; copy the following text and paste it at the bottom of that section.
{{subst:usurp|Name_To_Usurp|Current_Name}} ~~~~
Replace "Name_To_Usurp" with the username you wish to usurp, and "Current_Name" with your current username. You may include some reason for the change beneath the template if you wish.

Check your spelling and click "Save page".

Your request is now complete and ready to be processed. If the owner of the target account does not object within seven days, a bureaucrat will fulfill your request. Mark the date, so you will not be surprised when you find yourself unable to log in to your old account.

A few users have agreed to provide assistance with the mechanics of this process. If you wish to assist as well, please read the linked page carefully. Bureaucrats, see Wikipedia:Bureaucrats for instructions for processing these requests.

Arcimboldo ← Jungletiger

Note:
  • The target username meets the requirements for usurpation.
  • The current owner of the target username does not have an email address specified.

Note: I had seen no reasons stated on some other requests when I started this but I should probably have stated a reason for my request rightaway (but perhaps it is already obvious). I have used the name arcimboldo on my home WP (the German one) and the other Wikis that I've registered for(and in particular for my uploads on commons) and am also known as arcimboldo_ on the chat but for my - admittedly more sporadically used - account on the English Wikipedia I had not been able to do so since it had already been registered by someone else. -- Jungletiger 04:52, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jamie ← JamieHari

Reason for request: Primarily the reason for my request is that I am well known and accustomed to using Jamie on Wikia.com.
The secondary reason is that although I don't mind my last name being displayed for the world to see, I would prefer to be known as 'Jamie'. It is a more personal and concise username.
The account I am requesting to usurp has never been used in any edits, otherwise I would not have made this request.
I thank you for your consideration.

Note:

Tonei ← GenderqueerAlaskan

Note: I am the owner of Tonei - it was created in a misguided attempt at a namechange (from Stellertony) before I found the account renaming guidelines. The account has three edits, two of which are to GenderqueerAlaskan's userpage. Additionally, User:Tonei currently redirects to User:GenderqueerAlaskan. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GenderqueerAlaskan (talkcontribs) 07:14, 14 September 2007

Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia. Due to licensing concerns, this may be a barrier to usurpation.

Clerk note: If you can confirm that the Tonei account is yours by logging into it and signing this request, a bureaucrat may agree to the renaming. --NickContact/Contribs 07:27, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat note: You need to sign in as user:Tonei and post here before we can progress this. Secretlondon 20:57, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trublu ← TruBlu

Note:
Notification is posted. Since I strongly assume that it is my account, I hadn't done so earlier. Now learning that there is no email address specified, I know why password-reminding-mails never made it to me ;) --TruBlu 09:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...I wonder why the wiki-software let you create that name. It should block names close to each other (ie. by one character, here being the capital and lowercase b's). --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 18:18, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it is important to remember that the software is not infallible. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 21:26, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The software hasn't always stopped names that are close to existing usernames - and the second account was created in April 2005. Secretlondon 01:18, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jinxed ← Jordanhatch

Note:

Komeil ← Kbahmanpour

Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia. Due to licensing concerns, this may be a barrier to usurpation. But since both edits don't appear to be constructive(adding words in a different language to afd and userspace) I think a b'crat may allow this. --Chris  G  01:29, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rob ← Rob Beecham

I have always signed posts as "Rob" and would prefer not to have my full name as my username. The username appears to have not been used since it was created in 2002. Rob 15:35, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note
  • As this account has made 2 edits, it does not meet the standard requirements for usurpation. Given that the edits were minor ones in March 2002 to the account's own userpage, there are no GFDL or other issues with this request. A bureaucrat may therefore be willing to perform the request as a matter of discretion.
  • The target username has no deleted edits logged.
  • The current owner of the username has been notified of this usurpation request.
  • The current owner of this username does not have an email address specified.
