Gupta (Hindi: गुप्ता) is a surname of Indian origin. Gupta is a common surname in India, but it is uncertain whether there was one parent clan from which all families with Gupta surname branched. According to the historian R. C. Majumdar, it is more probable that different families without any connection adopted this name at different times.[1] Guptas are the strongest rulers of India.Among hindus , Guptas have ruled for longest period . The others dont seem to come anywhere near to them . Rulers of Gupta Empire== 

 Emperor Chandragupta -  the daring boy . worked with alexander and learned millitary skills of macedonians . later established a pan indian empire still unrivalled . 

   Country was quite safe  under the rule of Great Guptas . 

 Guptas also protected the buddhism along with hinduism .various mixed castes were allowed to sprang up eg. kayasthas( scribes ) or khatri( lala caste) . on the whole the people lived in peace and prosperity and free from any kind of tyranny that india had to suffer as the later weak rulers could not stop the foreign invaders . the rajputs in 11th and 12th century just fizzled in front of powerful muslim/turk attacks and after 11th and 12th century , country came under muslim rule.

however the rule of Great Guptas is still remembered for providing a golden rule to the country during their times.
