Great Games Experiment

Hey, sorry about creating that page. I'm somewhat new here, and I didn't realize I had created the page. Thanks for deleting it! --Jomskylark 15:47, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, if you ever need any help getting around, feel free to let me know. As a note, I didn't actually delete the page myself, I just marked it to be deleted. You're welcome either way. Happy editing! :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:13, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for your help!

Thankyou for helping me at Wikipedia:Help desk. Someone had actually made the header for me, and then he deleted and protected his own userpages and talk pages so I couldn't ask him directly. Anyway, I appreciate it! -- Matthew Edwards | talk | Contribs 03:34, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's certainly inconvenient. Glad I was able to help, feel free to let me know if you ever have problems in the future. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:36, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ko2007

Thank You, alot. It worked, even though i was making something stupid, I will use that for future reference. Although I did already know how to create userboxes, all I needed was to know how to add images. But Thanks Again! ** ko2007 ** 20:14, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, glad I could help. Hersfold

Re [1] re "middle" edit

I'm cleaning up from the end of the list, so I suggested anyone else start in the middle so there's no edit conflicts. The edit summary "I'" was me accidentally pressing Enter after ' because they're next to each other on my keyboard, I was going to write "I'm cleaning up from the end of the list". -- Jeandré, 2007-09-17t11:00z
OH! Ok, then, that makes sense. Thanks for the help. :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:00, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GEORGE GREGORY BUTTIGIEG

Dear Hersfold I am new to Wiki and appreciate your offering to help when necessary. I put in the entry GEORGE GREGORY BUTTIGIEG and I cannot understand why it may be deleted as it is completely genuine. If photocopies, photos....are necessary please illuminate me as well as HOW to send them to Wiki. I appreciate your not cancelling the entry but I cannot bbegin to understand what it lacks for credibility. Guess I should have put nothing in!! Good luck in your studies. I am a univ. lecturer myself and I appreciate the effort you need. Regards and thanks again. CYRUS OF ANTIOCH

Sure, I'm glad to help. The concern expressed isn't that we don't believe you, it's more that someone doesn't believe Dr. Buttigieg is notable, which there could be some debate about. Since this is an encyclopedia, there are certain requirements people have to meet in order to have an article here. I think your article has met them, but someone else doesn't, which is why we're discussing the thing before simply deleting it. We do appreciate your contributions - please don't think you're not welcome here. This happens very frequently, however, and unfortunately it does tend to hit new contributors most often. If you ever need help with anything, please let me know - I'd be more than happy to explain uploading images to you at another time if you wish, but unfortunately I have to run right now. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:00, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks for the Edline correction. I was still trying to figure out where I was supposed to post the question when you got back to me... thank goodness for your quick eye! :) Michael 02:24, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. The Help Desk probably was the right place - the only other appropriate location I can think of would have been the article's talk page, but that probably wouldn't have gotten a response for several weeks, at best. I do agree, sometimes it is hard to figure out just where to go, but the Help Desk is a good default. If you're not in the right place, we'll tell you where to go from there. Your speedy deletion tag on Glack GAC page.

Hi I just noticed your tag on the Glack GAC page. Just to let you know I added an argument against deletion on the talk page and I'd appreciate it of you reconsidered deleting it. Thanks. Derry Boi 22:38, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I already have, it looks like you weren't done writing it yet. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but may I suggest in the future you write the article on a subpage and move it to the mainspace when it's ready to go? That gives you more time to fix typos and such before it goes up on search engines and the like as well. Good luck with the article, and happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:40, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks for sorting that out. And thanks for the advice, I'll take it into consideration for future articles. Derry Boi 22:45, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD Duplicate Mayhem

Nice job removing the duplicate entry on today's AfD. It's a pity, then, that the server let me remove the other one in such a way as to suggest that the one you'd removed was still there! Seems to all be fixed now, at least. Confusing Manifestation 04:57, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, sorry for the confusing lack of an edit conflict there. Quite odd. What I want to know is how we ended up with two entries in the first place. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:59, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, quite odd, that. I suspect that given the entry was moved in this diff, then a server hiccup similar to the one that hit us could explain the duplication. Still very, very odd. Confusing Manifestation 05:07, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking care of the "mphaphuli cycad reserve" submission. Granted, it was submitted by the same IP that submitted the previous duplicate "Thathe Vondo Forest" item, (declined as highly POV - promotional tone) and while the reserve is verifiable, it doesn't seem at all notable, and I don't think that the precedence of "places are notable" extends to wildlife reserves or parks. I could find no WP:RS sources referring to it at all. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for making the decision. ArielGold 15:20, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It just sounded like an advert to me anyway. Including directions on how to get to location X isn't exactly encyclopedic. I'm sure we'll have an article on it eventually, as "places are notable" does (for better or, more often, worse) seem to be general consensus, but it's not getting created by me unless it's neutral. ;-) See you around AFC. Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:33, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Omigosh, this should go in the "hilarious quotes of fame" section:
"We're here to help you use Wikipedia, not do your laundry." --Hersfold Too funny! ArielGold 16:42, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah.... that has to be one of the strangest questions I've had to answer. I'll probably add it to my weird stuff sometime in the near future. Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:48, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Netball template

Thanks for your help.

--Matt 19:01, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quite welcome, let me know if you have trouble in the future. I'll work on some documentation for your template now - while I was fixing it, I tweaked a few of your parameters around to make them work better. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:07, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think I've done enough with Temple School? --Montchav 22:45, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Enough for now. You've convinced me that you're willing to work on the article, but I think it still needs a bit more information about the school - right now it's acting as a bit of a coatrack. I'll check back in a couple days to see how it's going, but I've removed the prod template for now. Good luck with it, and happy editing. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:49, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Smile

Loved your answer and edit summary at the help desk just a few minutes ago. (How vague is that?) As a sometimes teacher, my heart is warmed. :D --Moonriddengirl 16:48, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a strong opponent of any kind of cheating. Always glad to help out (just not with other's homework). Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:52, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Quite rightly. :) --Moonriddengirl 16:57, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Helpme response

The thing is, I am getting linked to their talkpage (they are in hertfordshire) everytime they vandalise wikipedia, even though I am always logged in when I edit, and the only IP's that relate to me are in london.
