Reno 911! is an American comedy television series on Comedy Central that debuted in 2003. It is a parody of law enforcement reality shows, specifically COPS, only instead of featuring real officers it stars actors playing largely incompetent police officers. The show is known for it prevalent use of improvisation, and scripting very little of the show.

The series spawned a film, Reno 911!: Miami, featuring the same cast.

Premise

Reno 911! is in some respects a parody of the long-running television show COPS. The show features members of the Reno Sheriff's Department, who are videotaped during the course of their duties, sometimes addressing the camera directly as though being interviewed. The force has problems with racism, homophobia, unrequited attractions, promiscuity, passive-aggressive feuds, drug use, and other dysfunctional troubles that supply much of the show's humor. It has been nominated for and received various awards during its airing.

Only the basic plot elements of the show are scripted, with the dialog improvised. This enhances the illusion of reality. Further enhancing this illusion are hidden audio commentaries on the season three DVD in which the cast provides in-character commentary as the Reno deputies, insisting that the show's producers told them the videotaped footage was going to be used for a FOX documentary series titled Heroes on Patrol, that they have no control over what is shown, and that the show only seems to capture those moments during which they seem incompetent.

Many of the main scenes are shot over the course of many hours, such as those that take place in the morning briefing room. According to the DVD commentary in the season three, the entire morning briefing scenes for a season may be filmed on one 10 hour day with different basic plot elements to be used in different episodes.

On March 21, 2004, Comedy Central ran a special of the show titled Reno 911!: Off Duty.

The cut scenes in between plot are filmed in Reno, but the show itself is filmed around Southern California, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Carson Station in Carson, California, and around Sun Valley and North Hollywood in the San Fernando Valley. Most of the exterior prison shots of "Washoe County State Penitentiary" are of Oregon State Correctional Institution, in Salem, Oregon.

The fourth season began on July 9, 2006 and comprises 14 episodes. Comedy Central aired the first seven in the fall of 2006 and the last seven in the spring 2007. Also in early 2007, a theatrical film based upon the series entitled Reno 911!: Miami was released in North America, featuring the complete TV series cast. The season four spring debut drew 1.3 million viewers during the week of March 26 to April 1, 2007.

On October 9, 2006, Comedy Central confirmed thirteen new episodes to make up Reno 911! season five. Production of Season Five started in January and wrapped up in April. Reno 911! season five is planned to debut summer of 2008.

On March 27, 2007, Superstation WGN, acquired the first three seasons of the half-hour comedy for a two-year run. The syndicated Reno 911! is a part of their late-night comedy block. Reruns will also be syndicated to broadcast stations throughout the country.

Main Characters

  • Lieutenant James "Jim" Ron Dangle (played by Thomas Lennon). A former maitre d' who is the highest-ranking deputy and is always seen wearing his trademark shorts, which are actually hotpants. The comedic theme of the character is that he is gay.[1] He openly harbors an attraction to Jones, and occasionally flirts with suspects. In one episode, Jones supposedly had sex with him, out of sympathy ("I'll try anything once"), after which Dangle was hospitalized because "He can't walk". (The incident occurs off-camera and what actually happened is never disclosed.) Early in the second season, it is revealed that he is married to a woman named Debbie (Rachael Harris), the heiress of a vacuum cleaner fortune, because she was morbidly obese and he believed she would die soon. After the two separated, she underwent gastric bypass surgery which turned her into "something the old Deb would have eaten," as Dangle put it. The two divorced at her request, because she met someone else, who was also clearly gay. He briefly believed that he had a son (a result of sex with what he thought was a drag queen) but DNA results prove otherwise. Dangle is also the subject of a running gag in which his police bicycle is stolen or vandalized after walking away from it for only a minute. It is hinted that Travis Junior is responsible for at least some of these bicycle incidents. In "Fireworks", Dangle is revealed to be 41 years old.
  • Deputy Travis Junior (played by Robert Ben Garant). A redneck who likes beer, NASCAR, firearms, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and perhaps most of all, his mustache. His character provides much of the physical comedy for the show, and performs most of the major stunts. He trains police dogs for the department and is almost never seen without his trademark sunglasses and bulletproof vest worn outside of his shirt. He is the only cast member who sports a military high and tight haircut. In the finale of the second season, he is shown clearly, for the first time, without his sunglasses, proving that he is actually cross eyed. There is a running gag in which he pulls over a driver and is knocked out or otherwise rendered incapacitated by the car door opening or something falling off the car. Another running gag involves him being frequently mauled by dogs. He has three brothers, who also wear sunglasses and have the same tastes: Henry ("Hank") Junior, Jr., from Panama City, Florida; Lance Corporal Junior, who serves in the U.S. Marine Corps, currently stationed in Tikrit, Iraq; and "Tater" Junior, from Sparks, Nevada. Despite his incompetence, he is portrayed as a generally good person, albeit uncouth and blunt. He is revealed to be the cousin of Deputy Kimball. In a third season episode in which the characters go to jail there is a swastika tattoo on his chest, but in the 2007 film he is seen shirtless and the tattoo is not there. This was probably just a one-time gag, in reference to Edward Norton's character in American History X.
  • Deputy Trudy Wiegel (played by Kerri Kenney-Silver). An emotionally unstable, heavily-medicated hypochondriac, with multiple psychological disorders. She is a generally odd, neurotic officer with low self-esteem and a special love for cats. She also enjoys crafts, collecting baby clothes, and is infatuated with Lieutenant Dangle. She frequently visits her mother's grave to have conversations with her, even planning picnics in which she brings two lunches. She began dating a man named Craig Pullin (Kyle Dunnigan), who turned out to be the "Truckee River Killer". After turning him in, she continued their relationship via prison visits, occasionally conjugal. On the day he was sentenced to die, the two got married. Wiegel admitted in the third episode of season one that her biological father was Native American and her mother was white, but the Comedy Central censors removed a 30-second story on how her father was lynched by a white mob in reaction to hearing that a non-white man "raped" her mother.[citation needed] She is shown on several occasions to be racist, including using the N-word (once resulting in her being slapped by African-American colleague Raineesha Williams in the unrated edition of the Reno 911!: Miami film). At the beginning of the fourth season, after six months of personal leave, she returned pregnant. She later explained that her child was not Craig Pullin's baby, but that she had gone to a sperm bank to be artificially inseminated. At the mention of the sperm bank, the camera panned to every male in the room and each of them gave a little information on the sperm bank, insinuating that one of them may be her child's "father". In the final episode of the fourth season, after the baby is born, Wiegel ominously tells Dangle she has something to tell him as she holds her new baby, setting up a cliffhanger of sorts in that Dangle may be the father of her child. Additionally, in an earlier episode, while Wiegel and Dangle are discussing her pregnancy, she asks "Would you be surprised if it looked like you?"
  • Deputy Clementine "Clemmie" Johnson (played by Wendi McLendon-Covey). A promiscuous blond female cop. She always wears her uniform partially unbuttoned to expose her cleavage. Early in the first season, she is shown to have a relationship with Deputy Jones. She is also an ex-magician's assistant, Wiccan, pothead, and one-time Steely Dan groupie. She has a tattoo on her back which once said "Steed", a one-time boyfriend, which she later had changed to "Steely Dan" after the two broke it off. She offered to have that removed if Deputy Garcia would pay to have his face tattooed in its place. When the officers were let go following an investigation by District Attorney Mike Powers (Mather Zickel), Johnson went back to touring with Steely Dan (which she calls "The Dan") for a short time, only to return to the force along with all the others. When held at gunpoint by Mr. Big in Miami (in the theatrical film) and asked for what her last words were, she replied, "legalize it." She has a troubled relationship with her mother owing to the fact that they sometimes fought over men. In one episode her mother is shown to be working as a prostitute.
  • Deputy Raineesha Williams (played by Niecy Nash). A loud and boisterous black woman who regularly maces men. She has an enormous booty. She broke up with Jones before the show premiered, but still occasionally answers his booty calls. She once joined the Nation of Islam in order to get the month of Ramadan off. She often yells, "Hahh?" after making a blunt statement for effect. She is almost always seen with her hat on. Raineesha is a single mother who in one episode is claimed to not know the parentage of her three children, though in another episode says that "only one of my babies' daddies, he can read good".
  • Deputy S. Jones (played by Cedric Yarbrough). Often called "Jonesy" by his coworkers, a black, smooth-talking, hugely successful ladies man. He was once described by Dangle in a deposition to the D.A. as "a big, hardworking, robust, sort of mocha-ish person". He is partners with Deputy Garcia, and often comes to blows with him. He was raised in Mound, Minnesota, a suburb of the Twin Cities. It is implied that he is Raineesha's ex-boyfriend, and he is in an on-again, off-again relationship with Clementine. He is also a talented singer and dancer, and works part-time as a stripper (in a police uniform). Other than the initial 'S', Jones' first name is never given. During the fourth season premiere, it is implied that he is the father of one of Deputy Williams' children.
  • Deputy James Oswaldo Garcia (played by Carlos Alazraqui). A racist, sexist, miserable Mexican American and former Marine. The other deputies often poke fun at his private off-duty life, which often involves lonely, angry bowel movements (Dangle once said that, alone in the men's room, he sounds like "Normandy"), frustrated masturbation, and reruns of Hill Street Blues. He is usually partnered with Deputy Jones, leading to situational humor, with Jones being black and Garcia being racist. He has one daughter, who he has not seen in several years. In one episode, they hire a stripper to pretend she is his daughter, in order to cheer him up. Garcia has had brief relationships with both Johnson and Williams. In a couple of episodes in season two, it is implied that he harbors a homoerotic attraction to Kenny Rogers. Garcia is also known to be very violent when arresting suspects. He has shot multiple people, and violently uses his nightstick to beat suspects. The film Reno 911! Miami revealed that he had flown an AH-1 HueyCobra for the US Marine Corps. In the final episode of season 4, Garcia runs off with Dangle's husband-to-be, suggesting that he is actually gay or bisexual. (The series has previously used cliff-hangers that turn out to be a dream of one of the characters, however, parodying a famous incident in the series Dallas.)
  • Deputy Cherisha Kimball (played by Mary Birdsong). An efficient rookie cop originally from Shreveport, Louisiana. She joined the force during the start of the third season. She is suspected of being a lesbian, despite her denial when asked bluntly on more than one occasion. She is often hit on by lesbians however. During one episode she jokes that she intends to use her contest-won jet ski to move rapidly from one gay bar to another. She joined the force because her "past is filled with sin and small time crimes and misdemeanors. Enforcing the law is my way of righting all my wrongs, cleaning up my karma. Also, they give good benefits."[2] In a recent episode, she is revealed to be Travis Junior's cousin.

In addition, the cast members frequently play the roles of criminals (with pixelated faces).

Cast history

Throughout the show's run, all three main cast members from Stella (who were also from The State) have made appearances as characters. While Michael Showalter remains the exception on the TV series, he appears in the film, along with all of the cast members of The State.

Producers and creators

Other characters

  • Andrew (played by Jim Rash). A homeowner that the police periodically visit due to complaints from his neighbors. Andrew claims that, since he is unemployed, his job is to "mix the things up," leading to flamboyant yard displays and impromptu parades. He also frequents Reno brothels and complains about hygienic offenses.
  • Bachelorette Party women. A group of raucous young women who conduct numerous wild bachelorette parties and repeatedly attempt to lure in male cops to strip for them. On one occasion Deputy Garcia responds to a call and berates them, only to discover Junior and Dangle in the room wearing nothing but their underwear, boots and gun holsters. On another occasion, Deputy Williams arrives, much to the party-goers' disappointment, and then traumatizes the bride-to-be by drawing attention to her own ample waist and posterior and promising that such bodily changes await the party's guest of honor once she becomes a wife and mother.
  • Big Mike (played by Toby Huss). Reno resident dirtball and "Captain of Suspicious Behavior." Reno deputies frequently respond to Big Mike's house to investigate complaints of domestic violence and disturbing the peace. In the opening credits of the fourth season, Dangle and Kimball assist Big Mike because he has a lawn dart embedded in his skull. In season one, Dangle and Junior go to Big Mike's because they believe he has an animal tattoo they need for a scavenger hunt. They've also been called when Big Mike thinks his wife Brenda, is dead, turns out that she was just sleeping.
  • Citizens Patrolman "Rick", played by Paul Reubens. Shown first in the fourth season, he's always one step ahead of the Reno officers when investigating a series of murders, only to unfold that he himself committed the crimes. He is seen multiple times making a get-away on a city "Metro" bus, and always whispers (which he attributes to allergies).
  • Constable Martin Smiley, played by Tom Bolster. A British policeman who visits Reno as part of the "Badges Across the Water" program. He appears initially to be a very proper, upright old-fashioned Englishman and the Reno deputies adore him. Garcia sees a very different side when Smiley rides along with him though. The constable beats suspects, abuses the handicapped, solicits prostitutes and attempts to rip off a drug ring of $100,000. He is killed in the shootout when the theft goes wrong, leaving Garcia the only person who knows the truth.
  • Craig Pullin' (played by Kyle Dunnigan). Dep. Trudy Weigel's boyfriend. While both he and Weigel appeared to be shy, conservative people, as a couple, their extremely unsuccessful sex life includes (seemingly almost by necessity) sexual role-playing and sexual fetishism. She later discovered he was "The Truckee River Killer" after discovering body parts in his fridge and had him arrested. The two kept dating despite Pullin being on Death Row, and Trudy seemed to regret her decision to turn him in, at one point trying to smuggle a file in a cake she had made for him. Trudy married him on the day of his execution.
  • "Delicious Milkshake Man" (played by Nat Faxon). In season two, after attempting to evade a severe beating at the hands of Reno Deputies (though at the end, he was demonstrating the shock absorption of his costume and left the deputies on good terms), he accidentally runs into the path of an 18-wheeler. His death leads to an investigation, termination and incarceration of all the Reno Sheriff's Department Deputies. Using comments from the DVD commentary, visual cues from the surrounding scenery, and Google Earth, it is possible to tell that the scene in which Milkshake was beaten is around the corner from where Rodney King was beaten in 1991. One can assume that this location setting was intentional, though of course no one from the show has said so.[citation needed]
  • Fantasy (role-playing) game geek (played by Patton Oswalt). Often badly hurts his opponents while playing fantasy games. Then, when the police respond, he claims that his opponent's real injuries are a result of fantasy attacks during game play with things like "magic missiles" (Dungeons & Dragons) or "Goblin Sappers" (Warcraft) and not actual physical violence on his part. In a deleted scene from season two, he is revealed to be Dangle's cousin. Patton Oswalt also plays the deranged local fan who attempts to assassinate Kenny Rogers. While never mentioned in the show, according to the DVD commentary, the creators of the show assume he is the same citizen of Reno.
  • "Fast Eddie" McLintock (unseen, voiced by Jeff Foxworthy). A famed drug runner and recidivist speeder who has been involved in multiple high-speed car chases with the Reno Sheriff's Department. Famous in the region for always outrunning the law, the Reno Deputies desire to apprehend him seems to be more about having their pictures taken with him than in actually charging him with a crime. The episode in which he appears contains numerous references to the cult classic Smokey and the Bandit. His car horn, in a pseudo-homage to the Dukes of Hazzard plays the first several notes of Dixie. In an audio commentary on the Season 3 DVD, the Reno Sherriff's Department reveals that McLintock was shot and killed shortly after filming.
  • Firefighters of the Reno Fire Department (played by Mitch Rouse and Guy Stevenson). Unlike the Reno Sheriff's Department, the members of the Reno Fire Department are competent, popular and well-respected — leading to tremendous feelings of envious bitterness and inadequacy in the cops (as well as secret admiration). While the cops feel they are feuding with the firefighters, the firefighters (who are confident in their own abilities) seem to have no such feelings in return.
  • French mime (played by Robert Ben Garant). Is reported for harassing customers outside a convenience store. To the delight of Deputy Jones, the mime performs a silent parody of Deputy Garcia. He is then assaulted by an enraged Garcia.
  • Frisbee (played by Zach Galifianakis). A "white trash" resident of Reno who lives with his family in an abandoned school bus. Owns a .30 cal Browning 1919 machine gun which he uses to shoot at soda cans, oranges, and UFOs. Deputy Garcia once used the gun and accidentally destroyed his squad car. His children's names include Chandler, Ross, Joey, Dharma and Greg after characters from the popular television sitcoms Friends and Dharma & Greg.
  • Gigg LeCarp (played by Los Angeles radio DJ Brian Phelps). A petty criminal-turned televangelist who, ten years ago, was arrested by Dangle and Garcia. LeCarp was high at the time and causing trouble so Garcia used his nightstick "to give him a message from My Lord." The message was delivered "in the head area." According Dangle, all of LeCarp's teeth were knocked out. LeCarp subsequently found the Lord and later became a televangelist. During a broadcast from the same jail cell where Garcia beat him, LeCarp got his revenge by locking the deputies inside the prison.
  • Guy Gerricault (played by Paul Rudd). Wiegel's creepily enthusiastic, inappropriately hands-on Lamaze coach. He seems a little too enamored of the pregnant female form to maintain a proper professional distance. In class, he often massages his students, brings up the subject of sex and makes unfounded, bizarre statements like "even whales will 69 from time to time."
  • Jackie (played by Kerri Kenney-Silver). A drug-addicted prostitute with herpes whose face is always obscured. She is known for spitting pickle juice. In the first season, Deputy Garcia was given the task of cleaning her up and sending her to a halfway home, but to Garcia's dismay Jackie ceaselessly, and loudly, acts like a crack-burnt prostitute. Garcia ended up being frustrated with Jackie and left her at the "halfway home" (in reality some unknown family's home) and sped off in his police cruiser, noting "that's no halfway house. It's halfway between the restaurant I took her to and where I live. That human pile of garbage would make Satan weep. God vomited and there was Jackie." In the extended scenes of the Reno 911! movie's special features, Jackie is heard on Terry Bernadino's/Jaspermens' father's private jet and claims to be Terry's sister.
  • Joe. The cameraman who documents the Reno Sheriffs Department's activities. He is shown on camera playing the drums when the Sheriffs respond to a noise complaint about a bad garage band in season two, episode twelve, and is also shown in the episode which includes the "second take" of Deputy Junior being thrown through a glass window. He can be seen a few times.
  • Kenny Rogers (as himself). A famous American country music singer and actor. Deputy Garcia thinks he should "focus more on his film career."
  • Ku Klux Klan (Reno Chapter of). A group of presumed bigots who ostensibly try to end bigotry and racism by burning lowercase t's ("for tolerance") and opening a lemonade stand with a sign reading "FREE LEMONADE FOR NIGGERS". The skits involving the Klan usually have two members, one who does most of the talking and one in the background who demonstrates the nature of the claims of the first Klansmen. The second man usually ends up horribly injured in some way, such as when he accidentally maimed his hand making lemonade or in the episode when the deputies are called in to investigate the vandalism of a sign, making it read, "Ku Sux Klan" and while trying to fix it, he falls off of the ladder into a dumpster.
  • Leslie (played by Dave Holmes). Ex-husband to Dangle's ex-wife Debbie (played by Rachael Harris). Owner of Bi-Curios, a store that is frequented by Dangle and Garcia. In the season finale, he had planned to marry Dangle until Garcia interrupted the wedding ceremony and confessed his love for Leslie. Leslie then ran away with Garcia, leaving Dangle "at the altar".
  • Maria Storm (played by Lisa Lo Cicero). A local TV reporter who has extensively covered the Reno Sheriff's Department. She is frequently hit upon by her male interviewees. Deputy Junior told her that, while in prison, he and the inmates would masturbate whenever she appeared on television. Actress Lisa Lo Cicero is married to the show's director Michael Patrick Jann.
  • Mike Powers (played by Mather Zickel). The former district attorney responsible for putting the entire Reno Sheriff's Department staff behind bars at the end of season two. He is later revealed to be a murderer who decapitates prostitutes. In season three, episode two, Powers tries to kill the then former Reno cops after their release from prison. By the end of the episode, he is arrested but seems to have resolved his issues with the former officers. On a few occasions, members of the Reno Sheriffs Department visit him in prison to ask him questions about operations of the District Attorney's Office under his tenure, and it is implied that he committed many more crimes and used his power to hide the evidence, such as the mugshot files from 1987–1992. Is somewhat like Hannibal Lecter. In one episode he goes on about Jones just like Lecter did with Clarice.
  • Puppeteer at children's events (played by Jack Plotnick). A sexual pervert/exhibitionist who uses a puppeteer's booth with an extra flap which, when down, reveals the fact that his pants are down and his penis is exposed.
  • "Reading Ron" (played by comedian Brian Unger). A children's TV host with a checkered past who attempts to profile the Reno Sheriff's Department on his television show. However, because of the deputies' total incompetence, he relapses into a cocaine habit and his career is destroyed.
  • "Spanish Mike" Alverez a.k.a. Cpt. Duane Hernandez, and Sammy Heung a.k.a. Lt. Suzy Kim (played by Oscar Nunez and Cathy Shim). "Hernandez" and "Kim" are criminals who pose as United States Department of Homeland Security agents in order to get their hands on the Reno Sheriff's Department's money and evidence in the two-part episode "Terrorist Training". Weigel falls for Hernandez in the plot arc. Spanish Mike later returns, in police custody, and the Sheriffs have to hold him until the FBI can pick him up.
  • Steed Lankershim (played by Timothy Brennen). Deputy Johnson's criminal ex-husband. He is multiple, repeat felon (including breaking and entering, assault, drug violations, and suspected of statutory rape). He met Johnson in a GED class. They broke up after Lankershim hit Johnson shortly after their wedding.
  • Stevie (played by comedian Brian Posehn). The Reno medical examiner. He first determines that Sheriff Chechekevitch dies from a poison delivered orally. He later finds that Chechekevitch dies of a peanut allergy only after Dangle and Junior ask him to find out. A later promo for the next episodes show that he is arrested for being under the influence of medical marijuana.
  • TeeTee (played by Niecy Nash). A bra-less, hysterical black woman with pronounced buck teeth and a unibrow (visible even though her face is always pixelated). She constantly screams nonsensically about things that did not happen, such as her winning of the lottery. When Garcia and Jones encounter her, she often steals one of their nightsticks because the stick reminds her of her father — "really thin and really black". She has on numerous times tried to have intercourse with Jones by wrapping her legs around him while he is arresting her.
  • Terry Bernadino/Jaspermens, the gay prostitute (played by comedian Nick Swardson). Often seen around the jail and other local establishments. He consistently denies any illegal activity and often tries to misdirect the officers with outlandish tales of bizarre crimes (e.g. ninjas down the street selling marijuana). His excuses, like his clothes, are always flimsy. He is typically seen wearing roller skates and working at a taco stand, "Tacos Tacos Tacos Tacos". Started the gangs The Kitties and The Grape Slushies. Owns a jet that his dad gave him for flag day.
  • Unnamed Chinese boy (played by Kit DeZolt). A poor Chinese boy who drives a rickshaw.
  • Unnamed couple (played by Charlie Day and Mary Elizabeth Ellis) who call police over a domestic dispute where he is threatening to rip the head off her (plastic "squeaky") baby. Their relationship is ambiguous: she at first calls him her husband, and then he says that she is his sister. Taken into custody by Dangle after they French kiss and are further assaulted when she dry-humps her companion in the back seat of the squad car.
  • Unnamed Armed Naked Guy at the VFW (played by Steve Little). An apparently high man (there is white powder under his nose) who is regularly seen naked and holding a gun while make nonsensical statements.
  • Unnamed middle-aged insane woman (played by Wendi McLendon-Covey). Seen dragging a water heater through the streets while not wearing any pants. She refuses to get into a squad car until after the deputies load the water heater in the back seat. When she finally does attempt to enter the car, the officers drive off with the water heater. She has been in other episodes, sans appliances.
  • Principal Manderville, school principal at safety assembly (played by Kristina Hayes), who usually makes an announcement to the students before the Reno deputies begin their show.
  • Unnamed redneck (played by Robert Ben Garant). Usually seen with his pants down and his penis in an inappropriate object (pumpkin, birdhouse). Also another variation as a naked redneck who is usually chased by Garcia and Jones. On 2 occasions, they chased him to the California state line and had to end their chase, and another time he was chased until Garcia and Jones ran into more naked rednecks and were chased themselves. He was shot by two of the officers that replaced the fired Reno deputies at the end of season 2.
  • Kevin (played by Michael Ian Black). A convicted sex offender who moved to Reno and goes from house to house (followed by Deputy Johnson) telling neighbors they have to sign "this thing" saying they're aware he's moving into their neighborhood, "forgetting" to tell them he is a convicted sex offender. He is "something of a foodie."
  • Sheriff Walter Chechekevitch (played by Tracey Walter). The Deputies' aloof and absentee boss. His appearances at the Sheriff's department are so infrequent, they are unable to remember his name. He eventually dies from a combination of peanut allergies and a self-inflicted candy bar. He subsequently appears to each of the deputies in their dreams (when each of them doze off at his funeral).
  • Unnamed Guy from the future (played by Steve Little). A (possibly intoxicated or retarded) man who is seen naked with a either an Uzi or a (fake) shotgun. He claims to be from the future.

At the end of season 2, all seven of the main characters are fired and jailed, to be replaced by other deputies who bear a grotesque resemblance to them:

In an ironic twist, the "New Jones" ( Wayne Brady), playing "Deputy C. Garwood", immediately discloses what the "C" stands for, while Jonesy's "S" initial has remained a closely guarded secret throughout the show's run.

In an interview about Reno 911 and his character Dangle, Lennon says, "There's always this question, 'When's Dangle coming out?' and I'm like, 'Have you seen the show?' On the first episode, he makes out with another man for about two minutes. I guess people think he's closeted because Trudy is in love with him, but that has more to do with the fact that she's severely brain-damaged."
