Ogallala

Hi, I replied to your note on my talk as follows - somehow the formatting on my talk page seems all fouled up, hopefully it will get better on its own! I don't know what I did. Anyway -

Hello - I'm not a real expert on the Ogallala though I've done some work. I would hate to disagree with the 2007 USGS publication you referenced. My real issue when I made the edit was equating "late Miocene-Pliocene" with "10-12 million years ago," as the first ref seems to do - 10-12 million is middle Miocene, at latest. I did look for a reference to back up my edit, but could not find one online quickly, and my print refs for the age of around 6 m.y. and younger are packed away. But I will look harder, because you are certainly correct that a ref or refs are needed. If I can't find it, we should go with that USGS paper, though I think they are generalizing. Cheers and thanks - Geologyguy 21:54, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Topographic map

Hi, thanks for providing the excellent topographic perspective image. Would it be possible to proovide a higher quality copy though? This seems to be saved as a JPEG with low quality (when it's not clear JPEG is even the best format for this: text, solid colors). Thanks again! --Belg4mit 00:07, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure which image you're referring to; I've made a number of map images for Wikipedia. Can you provide a link? --Kbh3rdtalk 14:23, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for direction.

Hello,

I recently installed your tool, and I understand that you are aware of the updated templates for warnings. However, I wanted to find out what your plans are for updating the script. Also, your thoughts on the modified scripts would be most appreciated. Cheers. --Aarktica 19:11, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It took me longer to get to the changes for my scripts than I hoped, but the changes are done. Updated documentation is here. --Kbh3rdtalk 15:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the revisions. It appears that the toolbox was automatically updated — there are now numbers next to each of the warning templates. Is this what you intended? Aarktica 15:55, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the numbers correspond to the different warning levels. --Kbh3rdtalk 15:59, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With respect, I disagreed with you observation concerning my David Koch edit. I agree the word "absurdity" expresses a subjective point of view - but it is still "neutral" in you policy sense. Both the subject matter - a clearly absurd claim, and the context - namely the television show interview "The Glass House" warranted the statements I made.

May I ask - did you see "The Glass House" interview, and did you see the footage of Koch's intrusion into the ambulance vehicle? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.45.12.238 (talkcontribs)

In addition to WP:NPOV, please read WP:NOR and WP:CITE. It is generally sufficient (and on Wikipedia most desireable) to state the plain (supported) facts. The facts will speak for themselves. If a situation is absurd, the reader is generally intelligent enough to draw that conclusion himself from the facts without extra editorializing. This is not a magazine article or a Variety review. --Kbh3rdtalk 06:24, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for the vandal fighting at my user page. Btw, love the "How to Write Good" list on yours; hilarious! AUTiger ʃ talk/work 05:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sal Sapit Omnia

Ah, the Latin tag, many of which can be translated in several ways. This particular one is rather clever as it genuinely has two meanings. 'Sal' means 'salt' but figuratively it can mean 'wit'. 'Sapire' means 'to taste of, to savour' but also 'to discern'. So it is permissible to translate it both as 'salt seasons all' but also 'wit penetrates all'. The implication is that the Salter's Company was made up of sharp characters, and indeed on the basis of its motto, its members had some claim to be thought of as witty. Thanks

Yeah, I'm still pretty new here. I'll keep an eye on that page you recommended, and hopefully be in a better position to do more inside a month (RL issues have prevented me from doing as much as I'd like). Thanks again! San Diablo 03:49, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About the Vandalism Warning Toolbox

I find this script very useful, but I would like to make some requests as well.

  • When clicking the warning, a javascript popup will appear, a setting which disables it would be helpful for people giving general warnings only.
  • Make the toolbox available even not in editing mode, and clicking on one of the warning will automatically get you into editing mode and add the warning.
  • Make a feature that allows the user to instantly save the page right after clicking on the warning, this would be helpful. (sorry for the bad english, had to write this in 5 minutes or so, feel free to ask me and I'll make it clear when I get home) Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 18:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm not surprised that your requests center on speed of use – you're always beating me when responding to vandalism! While I'm trained as a programmer, JavaScript/DOM is really outside of my area of expertise. So I'm not sure how much of the above I'd be able to implement. But since they're interesting problems, in addition to being quite useful, I'll look into it. But with no promises. (Your English, by the way, is far better than what I can manage in any of the languages I have listed on my user page.) --Kbh3rdtalk 19:15, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BSB edit

T his edit of mine: "The school also has an armoury, containing between 20 and 30 rifles for the cadets to use. Most are L98A1 rifles, but a handful are Lee Enfield Rifles. All are bolt action, and are used to train cadets how to load, cock clean etc. a rifle." yeah, that's actually true. Looking past random acts of vandalism on articles no-one reads because I was bored... that's a genuine edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.113.13.131 (talk)

Well, it would seem that edit was a victim of the fine reputation you've built with your admitted acts of vandalism. --Kbh3rdtalk 19:11, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thinks juveniles' inside jokes are an appropriate use of Wikipedia

Just so you know, the A. Crawford Mosley high school page wasn't even correct the last time. Trey Williams and Curtis Pittman were both seniors this past year at the school. Mrs. Trey Williams was not the first homecoming queen to represent mosley high school. in fact, Trey isn't even married.....he's 18 and has yet to attend college. Mark Rosser was also a senior at mosley high school, and was not the student government association president. He was a normal kid in band. Trey has altered the page, along with his buddies, to his fancy. In fact, many mosley high school students have done this act throughout the course of the year. If you want to get technical, the mosley high school page has never originally held all true factual information, and it never will if it keeps up. None of the faculty or staff know about the page on wikipedia, nor care about it. If you want to be a stickler about real, true, factual information, please go to the mosley website and request for information from them. http://www.bayschools.com/mhs/ I doubt they will answer, though. have fun. If you truely don't care about the mosley page, then leave it up to the childish humor of the high-school students as a small inside joke between them, and let them be. Thank you and have a good day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.59.72.234 (talk)

Non-free use disputed for Image:One Eyed Jacks poster.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:One Eyed Jacks poster.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:42, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Thestral.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Thestral.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:52, 17 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 17:52, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Why did you delete my add (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bankruptcy) I added our site (bankruptcy-canada.ca) because it explains all complex aspects of bankruptcy for free....? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.95.10.115 (talk) 18:37, August 20, 2007 (UTC)

WP:EL, WP:COI, and WP:V#SELF, for starters. It smelt of spam to me, maybe it's not. Does that external site sell services or serve as a directory for those who do? That won't swim. I won't delete it again if you re-add it. I've voted once; let's see what other editors think. --Kbh3rdtalk 20:26, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No we do not sell services to our visitors. We actually offer bankruptcy trustee's listing on our site for answering anonymous questions for free. If visitors wish to "hire" a bankruptcy trustee they contact the trustee's directly and negotiate cost etc, that’s up to them. Our site is designed to provide expert answers to anonymous questions for free. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.95.10.115 (talk)

Thanks so much for your advice. I am new to this and am working with some friends and family to create an entry for one of our ancestors. While we are all novices, we are committed to creating the best and most accurate entry possible while effectively contributing to the Wikipedia community. I sincerely appreciate your help and am sorry for any extra work I caused you. Thanks! --Cathyjocooke 13:49, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for Cahokia edit

I'd considered removing "recently", while I was there, but ended up unsure whether it imparted useful information. Next time I'll be encyclopedic and bold.

I guess you don't see an improvement to the talk page link.

By the way, I hope you don't mind me using "+" instead of your "add to talk page" button, but when I pressed the button I got switched to anonymous. Possibly that's because I use the secure connection, to protect my password.–Dan Hoeytalk 17:23, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why blame me?

It wasn't vandalism, it was constructive, I was deleting random nonsense. Blame 142.165.44.243 and 24.95.49.33 for vandalism, not me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.36.201.90 (talk) 04:15, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize if there was a misunderstanding. Such may be avoided by consistent use of the Edit summary field when making changes, which you omitted. --Kbh3rdtalk 14:47, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Which is the clean version?? Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 04:07, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That can be difficult to determine sometimes. But I guarantee it's not one of the versions by 165.123.201.96. --Kbh3rdtalk 04:12, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Too true. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 04:15, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Im sorry I did not realise that material was copyright, I copied it from my school website and was trying to give the page a good look. I will not do this again.

Re: Image:Geoid height red blue.png

Thanks for your note! It's one of the standard wikipedia projections: a Robinson projection centered on 10°E. I got the data from the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, per the link on the Geoid article. (here: [1]) I then used ArcGIS to interpolate the data into a higher-resolution raster.. the colors and such were done with a combination of ArcGIS and Illustrator. hope this helps! Request for help

Hello! This is to ask for help in settling an ongoing edit dispute regarding the Aquila Legis page, which keeps getting vandalized by anonymous users. Thanks! Rmcsamson 16:03, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like a candidate for temporary semi-protection, given the number of different IP addresses causing the trouble, so I did the deed. --Kbh3rdtalk 20:31, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

tolstoy deletion

Thanks for being polite, but it actually was my intention to delete content, and i did clearly state why on the discussion. To put it nicely, the material i deleted was very unnecessay and misleading, and detracts from the article. Is there any chance wikipedia will allow me to make this justified edit? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.173.247.136 (talk) 07:22, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your efforts to improve Wikipedia. Simply use the edit summary when deleting material. It is prominently displayed immediately above the Save page button whenever you edit. It exists to explain your intentions, which is immensely helpful to other editors. Its consistent use will avoid your intentions from being misconstrued, saving us both extra work. Simply enter "Rm extraneous material per talk page", e.g. When patroling recent changes for vandalism it is impractical to hunt for rationale on every article's talk page. Random obscenities on a page are obviously vandalism. Unexplained removal of large blocks of text are usually assumed to be so, because they usually are. --Kbh3rdtalk 13:42, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
