Benchill is a district of the city of Manchester, part of the massive Wythenshawe council estate, about eight miles south of the city centre. In 2000 it was named the most deprived ward in England, and with this title present and ovbious has brought a massive crime and gang lifestyle to Benchill, many youths in benchill have taken to wearing bulletproof vests when alone, because it has been said to be so dangerous, but since the release of "indices of local deprivation" some schemes have been set up to assist its residents.

The area also gained national media attention in 2007 when Conservative politician David Cameron visited the estate, only to be targeted by a group of youths, one of whom made a gun gesture with his hand towards him that was caught on film [1].
