The downhaul is a line (or rope) on a sailboat that applies downward force on a spar. The most common downhaul on a modern sailboat is attached to the spinnaker pole.

The downhaul performs the same function as a foreguy, but is not actually the same type of rigging. Whereas the foreguy is attached to the outboard end of the pole, the downhaul applies its force to the middle of the pole.
