Bald Archy Prize
The Bald Archy is an Australian art prize, a parody of the Archibald Prize. It usually includes cartoons or humorous works of art making fun of Australian celebrities. It is supposedly judged by Maude, a cockatoo. It began in 1994 at the Coolac Festival of Fun, in the tiny town of Coolac near Gundagai, New South Wales but is now a big event shown in Sydney, Melbourne and other locations.
Since 2005 the home of this art competition and its accompanying exhibition is the Museum of the Riverina, Wagga Wagga.
Past winners
- Eric Löbbecke was the Bald Archies winner with caricatures of Brian Harradine (2000) and Amanda Vanstone as the Skase Chaser (2002).
- 2005 Tony Sowersby won with his painting The Cardinal with his Abbott, referring to George Cardinal Pell and Tony Abbott.
- 2006 winner was Brown stain-Janus faced, a satirical version of John Olsen's Self portrait Janus Faced which won the 2005 Archibald Prize.
- Other people depicted have included Rolf Harris, Peter Costello, Kerry Packer, Rene Rivkin, Mark Latham, Graham Kennedy, Russell Crowe, Gai Waterhouse and Clover Moore [1]
