Career highlights and awards

Reginald DeVincey Wayne (born November 17, 1978 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American football wide receiver who currently plays for the NFL's Indianapolis Colts.

High school years

Wayne attended John Ehret High School in Marrero, Louisiana, where he was a two-sport standout in both football and track. In football, he was a two-time All-State honoree, and as a senior, caught 50 passes for 930 yards (18.6 yards per reception average) and 10 touchdowns. In track, he ran the 200-meter dash and various relays.

College career

As a 4-year starter at the University Of Miami playing with Santana Moss and Andre Johnson, Wayne set a school record 173 career catches (including 36 consecutive games with a reception) and is only one of three wide receivers in school history to post 20+ touchdowns in his career.

Professional career

Wayne was drafted by the Colts with the 30th pick in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft to play alongside star receiver Marvin Harrison. Wayne's first year witnessed him putting up pedestrian numbers at best as he caught only 27 passes for 345 yards with no touchdowns. His yards doubled the next year as he caught 49 passes for 716 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Because of a solid 2002 season Wayne received much more attention from All Pro Peyton Manning in 2003 as he caught 68 balls for 838 yards and 7 touchdowns. 2004 was Wayne's second best statistical season as he caught 77 passes for 1,210 yards and 12 touchdowns. Wayne was named the "Wild Card Weekend Offensive Player of the Week" after the Colts beat the Broncos. Normally this performance would be good enough for the Pro Bowl but because of a bigger wide receiver star Marvin Harrison on the same team, and Peyton Manning breaking the single season passing touchdown record his accomplishments went overshadowed. In 2005 Wayne's yards per catch took a dive as he set a personal high for receptions with 83 for 1,055 yards, a 12.7 average per reception (his average the previous year was 15.7 yards).

In 2006, the Colts offered Wayne a 6-year, $39.5 million contract to remain on the team. That year, Wayne set personal highs catching 86 balls for a career high 1,310 yards and 9 touchdowns. As a result, Wayne was selected to his first Pro Bowl. Wayne caught a 53-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter of Super Bowl XLI, as the Colts would go on to beat the Chicago Bears to become NFL champions.

In 2007, Reggie Wayne set career highs in receptions (104), and yards (1510). He led the league in receiving yards and was selected to go to the Pro Bowl for the second consecutive year.
