AT&T Labs, Inc. is the research & development arm of American telecommunications giant, AT&T.
History
AT&T Labs - Research consists of some of the world's best scientists and engineers, experts in science and technologies of critical importance to AT&T including advanced data networking, network management, wireless systems, software, information mining and management, and speech technology. Starting in 1925 to today, AT&T Labs has been responsible for creating technologies that have won the Nobel Prize and launched whole new industries. Over many years, researchers in our Labs laid the groundwork for numerous landmark achievements in advanced voice and IP technologies, such as AT&T Natural Voices Text-to-Speech and AT&T CallVantage. In 2005, SBC Communications and AT&T Corp. merged to form AT&T Inc. AT&T Labs, Inc-Research became the new name of the combination of AT&T Labs & SBC Laboratories. AT&T Labs was originally founded in 1925 as Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc., and was renamed in 1996 to AT&T Laboratories, Inc. following the spin-off of most of Bell Labs to Lucent Technologies.
In 2006, BellSouth Laboratories became a part of AT&T Labs.
Works
They developed KornShell (a Unix shell programming language), Graphviz, a graph visualization system, Text to Speech software, Galax (an implementation of XQuery for XML), and other useful tools and libraries.
