Overview

Fontainebleau's mascot is the Bulldog; the school's motto is Optimus Optimorum, a Latin saying meaning "The best of the best." Fontainebleau High School is known for its academic excellence and is recognized as being among the top public high schools in the state.[citation needed] The school continually scores above local, state, and national averages on standardized tests. The school has continually received the Golden Achievement Award from LSU in recognition of the school's graduating seniors earning high amounts of college credit on LSU's credit/placement exams. In addition, many students are successful at the district and state literary rallies.

In 2004 the school was certified as a National PTA Parent Involvement School of Excellence.[citation needed] It was recertified in 2007. The school is also known nationwide for the Fontainebleau High School Crimson Band, who performs all around the country. In 2006 they took third place in the LA Showcase of Marching Bands and took fifth place in 2007.

Athletics

Fontainebleau, a member of District 4-5A as classified by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA), is also known for its strong athletic program. The school recently won the state title in girl's soccer in 2004, the first state championship the school has ever won. The boys and girls track teams won regional titles in 2005. Even more recently, in 2006, the boys' soccer team won the state runner-up title, the best any boys' team has ever done in school's brief history. The school has also garnered many district titles and many teams have had impressive playoff runs.

Organizations

Talented Theatre

In 2005, FHS established a theatre. With over 90 students currently enrolled, they perform three main stage shows a season. At the same time, the students experience all elements of theatre; including history, literature, and production.

Cheerleading

The school's cheerleading squad has continuously been one of the most dominant on the Northshore[citation needed] and in the surrounding area and had an undefeated competition year in the 2006-2007 school year. Many of the team members have since become collegiate cheerleaders and staff members of the Universal Cheerleading Association.

Band

It’s “the pride of West St. Tammany,” the Fontainebleau High School Crimson Band from Bulldog Land! The FHS "Crimson Band" band program began in 1994 with the opening of the school. Since then, the band has grown immensely. In the beginning, the program had a little more than thirty members. Now, the program boasts nearly 150 members. In recent years the band program has taken giant steps to becoming a band program of excellence. In 2004, the program saw the addition of a third concert ensemble. Since Mr. Ralph Lee Hicks, Jr. became the director in the 2002-2003 school year, the band has earned six sweepstakes trophies and 4 superior plaques at the District IX Large Ensemble festival, and the Wind Symphony received a sweepstakes trophy at the state level in 2005. The marching band has taken great strides in recent years as well. In 2003, the marching band attended its first marching festival. The band continues to become a more competitive marching band each year. During the 2005 season the Crimson Band was invited to the Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands (the state’s premier marching competition featuring 32 of the best bands in the state). Also, the band has received numerous “Best Band” recognitions at various Mardi Gras parades and was selected twice to march in Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. This past Fall, the FHS Crimson Band was invited again to participate in the Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands. The FHS Crimson Band won 3rd place overall with an outstanding performance that included many complex maneuvers and exceptional footwork. The FHS Band program includes: the Marching Band and Flag Team, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and the Jazz Ensemble.
