The Cap'n has a head wound?

Is there a source for the story about the Cap'ns education and war experience? Does he really have a head wound under his hat?

Parody image?

In the Family Guy parody image, what aspect of the character is being parodied? This is never explained in the article, leaving it unclear to me (as someone who hasn't seen that episode) what purpose the image serves on this page. --anon

I think it's meant to show Cap'n Crunch's overall popularity in pop culture terms. Then again, everyone and everything get a cameo in Family Guy eventually, so maybe it's not such a big deal ;)--RicardoC 12:48, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Family Guy appearence has Cap'n Crunch being parodied about the effect the cereal has on one's mouth. He is speaking to a hitman who inquires why he should kill "Count Chocula" (paraphrased) "Because that bastard has been spreading lies! My cereal does NOT cut up the roof of your mouth!" = anon

It would be good for the authors (us) to mention Cap'n Crunch whistles and their effect on AT&T's network, and Cap'n Crunch Decoder Rings, resulting in a simple substitution encryption algorithm.

  • Who is the current voice of Cap'N Crunch?

Original research/ fabrication??

"Effects of Milk Despite its famous tagline, Cap'n Crunch actually becomes soggy rather quickly in milk when compared to other breakfast cereals." Because I don't live in the US I don't know about this, but it seems a rather subjective thing to put in an article. The article also says that people have been cut by the cereal. Which is true? IanF 18:02, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just ate some, and the roof of my mouth feels a little raw, but certainly not bleeding!

"Cap'n Crunch Mouth", the resulting rawness and soreness in the roof of the mouth as a result of eating Cap'n Crunch cereal, was a much discussed ailment amongst my friends when I was young. This painful condition does indeed exist.

Added request for cleanup

The whole section on the Cap'n's personal history seems to be uncited and unsubstantiated, and veers off towards the absurd in the end. Could someone either verify this information or remove it? 131.215.220.112 09:39, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Currently e-mailed customer service from http://www.capncrunch.com/ they may prove the article false, or based on "fact" from some advertising company! --A Gigantic Panda 19:32, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, this article is horrible. I'll delete some stuff and improve it slightly, but it will still be bad. --Xyzzyplugh 15:19, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the cleanup tag because most off the 'personal history' text has been deleted. The article is still thin, but I suppose it is about a breakfast cereal (no matter how delicious it may be). Fearfulsymmetry 01:05, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ren and Stimpy "Reference"

Is this really a reference to Cap'n Crunch, or just the word Cap'n? Michael Podgorski 08:47, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The real name of Cap'n Crunch

"This is free-encyclopedia. You recently edited the page on Cap'n Crunch. You took out my comment about how his full name was Horatio Magellan Crunch, and put something at the top about how how the page does not site its sources or something. Well, I found the fact in the reliable book by Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings, Braniac. I could not find the same fact anywhere else on the Internet (aside from Wikipedia, where I put it), so I couldn't cite the source. I just wanted to run it by you. Unless you object, I would love to re-enter that fact, because it is my personal favorite of all of my contributions.Free-encyclopedia 02:26, 28 November 2006 (UTC)" (Moved by -WarthogDemon 02:28, 28 November 2006 (UTC))[reply]

My primary objection was that virtually all of the material within the Cap'n Crunch article was unsourced, and failed our verifiability policies. If you'd like, I can assist you with referencing the item you're referring to. If the information was retrieved from a book, we can use the {{cite book}} template; just let me know the pertinent details including the page number(s) where this is mentioned. At some point, Crunch's first name was re-inserted, along with an official cite from the product's FAQ. I've just added his middle name, but now I'm back in the same place WarthogDemon was last year, as it comes from a print source. Hopefully it's cited appropriately.Inkslinger 06:41, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lot of work needed here.

This article needs work. Here's a proposed change to the introduction.

Cap'n Crunch is a popular corn and oat breakfast cereal manufactured by the Quaker Oats Company. It is composed of yellow, sweetened pieces intended to look like treasure chests. The cereal is named for its naval mascot, Cap'n Crunch.

Cap'n Crunch Cereal has generated several spin off cereals since its creation in 1963, of which three are still manufactured.[1] Cap'n Crunch's Crunch Berries, created in 1967, features colorful round berry pieces mixed in with traditional Cap'n Crunch.Citation Needed Peanut Butter Crunch followed in 1969, and Cap'n Crunch's Oops! Choco Donuts completed the current Cap'n Crunch lineup in 2002.Citation Needed

I think we should have a separate section for the dozens of discontinued Cap'n Crunch varieties- Bookswinters 04:17, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, what's the status on the Topher's Breakfast Cereal Character Guide as a reliable source? It doesn't seem like one to me. -Bookswinters 16:25, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There should also be some mention of the "Soggies" who were always trying to thwart Captain Crunch in his commercials in the 80's.White_Bishop 18:31, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose havign that many articles; keep them together and redirect alternate titles to one article. This would allow an article to compare the different versions which would cumbersome with so many different articles. RJFJR 03:19, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't get the neutrality thing re Cap'n Crunch

Why was the neutrality of this disputed? I don't see it.

Staszu13 16:11, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neither do I, ergo, I removed that bit. Mahalo. --Ali'i 19:19, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

captain crunch "cuts the roof of your mouth"

Why is that added to this trivia? Although I do know that captain crunch does cut the top of your mouth (through personal experience), I do not beleive that this should be in the trivia section. You might as well say something like "gum rots your teeth" or "sugar makes you hyper", do you see what im saying?

I suggest that the "captain crunch cuts the roof of your mouth" trivia be removed —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.177.11.143 (talk) 19:59, 9 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

When I was reading the article just now, I was wondering why that wasn't put in. I think it should be added in a popular culture section...I'm pretty sure I've even seen references to it in the media (probably family guy or something similar).
I suggest the roof cutting section be added, especially under the "popular culture" section. LostCause 15:21, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who plays Jean LaFoote?

In the latest commericals, a live actor plays the part of Jean LaFoote? Who plays that role? My intuition tells me it is Stefán Karl Stefánsson. It this verifiable?

Also, I think it would be reasonable to mention the Cap'n's previous foes: The Soggies! --Bushido Hacks 06:41, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't Jean LaFoote taken out the mythos for being insultingly "French?" Is his new incarnation more neutral? OlYeller 19:39, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inventor of Cap'n Crunch

While visiting the wineries in California's Amador County, I came across the C.G. di Arie winery, owned and run by none other than the inventor/developer of Cap'n Crunch cereal. He's a Turkish national, Chaim Gur-Arieh, PhD. See this Google search and in particular this interview. Information like this needs to be incorporated into the article somehow. =Axlq 20:32, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of trivia section

Seraphimblade removed the entire trivia section a little while ago, claiming that nothing was "usable." Usable for what? It's trivia. I found it entertaining and I think the article is not as good without it. CjPuffin  19:12, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was tempted to do the same thing. The trivia section is worthless. --Jtdunlop (talk) 12:02, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Movie

Anyone know when the Cap'n Crunch movie is coming out? Will it be rated PG 13 or R? 75.2.217.84 20:59, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Death?

There is a rumor that Cap'n Crunch was murdered, and that the police suspect a cereal killer.

-- Actually, the current panel of the webcomic "Breakfast of the Gods" DOES have the Cap'n getting killed fro behind by Jean LaFoote...so in a sense, you're correct! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.106.107.111 (talk) 05:14, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grape crunch berry?

The article says Cap'n Crunch retook first place in sales when it released its new flavor of grape crunch berries. ...there's no reference to a grape crucnh bery, shoudl that say strawberry crunch berry or just crunch berries? RJFJR 03:21, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Soggys?

I recall the Soggy's being a nemesis of Cap'n Crunch in the 80's and 90's. Does anyone have any information about this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.162.236.151 (talk) 03:49, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of the Soggies, dig this. OlYeller 19:34, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:CapnCrunch.png

Image:CapnCrunch.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Carls Junior malts

Just went to Carl's Junior and saw that they have a limited promotion of malts made with Cap'n Crunch (similar to Oreo shakes). If anyone thinks this is appropriate for the article, I'll put it in. If I hear nothing, I won't bother.

Links:

  • [3] - $1.00 off coupon
  • [4] - Carl's promotions page (will likely be outdated when promotion ends).

--KNHaw (talk) 21:55, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seems a bit trivial to me if it's just a limited time promotion. If it were to be a long-term offering, it would be more noteworthy.
-- BullWikiWinkle 00:59, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, then. Saves me work. (*GRIN*)

Norwegian viking & portuguese sailor ancestry

Am I crazy or did I once read somewhere that an early Cap'n Crunch promotion say that Captain Crunch was descended from Norwegian vikings on one side of his family and portuguese seafarers on the other? Hey, if it was something ever said by the company, the page should be at least as much about the mascot as the cereal. 67.5.157.65 (talk) 08:20, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
