"Gotta Be Somebody"
Song

"Gotta Be Somebody" is the first official single to be released from Nickelback's sixth studio album, Dark Horse. Originally, the lead single from the album was set to be "If Today Was Your Last Day" [1] but was changed instead to "Gotta Be Somebody". The song was digitally delivered to all formats on September 29, 2008. [2][3] It was available on September 29 for free download for 24 hours only on participating radio station websites and the band's website, after which it was released to all digital markets for paid digital download on September 30th. The song has already reached #1 on American iTunes Rock Chart and #3 on the overall top selling songs. It shot to the #1 spot overall on the Canadian iTunes store.

The song is about searching for the right person to spend the rest of your life with, and deals with the fear of wondering if you may ever find that person.

On September 29 2008, the song was premiered in the UK, on BBC Radio 1 on The Scott Mills Show. The song will be released in the UK in November 2008.

Music video

Nickelback shot the music video at The Forum on Sunday, October 12 in Inglewood, California. The band performed a "Mini Concert" consisting of several songs which will be part of the video. The show was to be a "sneak peak" at their upcoming world tour that the band plans to embark on at the beginning of 2009. Part of the concert will air in a television commercial.[4]

The set list was as follows:
1. "Gotta Be Somebody"
2. "Animals"
3. "Someday"
4. "Too Bad"
5. "Rockstar"
6. "Figured You Out"

Guitarist Ryan Peake did not appear on stage until Animals. It is unknown whether he played from backstage or if the band lipsycned the song as part of the video. The video was directed by Jesse Tererro and is expected to premiere late October 2008.

Lyrics

This time I wonder what it feels like im about to bust a nut
To find the one in this life to fuck my ass
The one we all dream of penis breath
But dreams just aren't enough
So I'll be waiting for the real thing
I'll know it by the feeling
The moment when we're meeting
We'll play out like a scene straight off the silver screen
So I'll be holdin' my own breath
Right up until the end
Until that moment when
I find the one I'll spend forever with

'Cause nobody wants to be the last one there
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares
Someone to love with my life in their hands
There's gotta be somebody for me like that

Tonight out on the street out in the moonlight
And damn it this feels too right
It´s just like Déjà Vu
Me standin’ here with you
So I´ll be holdin`my breath
Could this be the end?
Is it that moment when
I find the one that I'll spend forever with?

‘Cause nobody wants to be the last one there
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares.
Someone to love with my life in their hands.
There´s gotta be somebody for me like that.

`Cause nobody wants to go it on their own
And everyone wants to know they´re not alone.
Is there somebody else that feels the same somewhere?
There`s gotta be somebody for me out there.

You can´t give up!
When you're lookin´ for that diamond in the rough
Because you never know but when it shows up
Make sure you´re holdin` on
‘Cause it could be the one, the one you´re waiting on

‘Cause nobody wants to be the last one there.
And everyone wants to feel like someone cares.
Someone to love with my life in their hands.
There has gotta be somebody for me
Ohhhhhh.

Nobody wants to go it on their own
And everyone wants to know they´re not alone.
Is there somebody else that feels the same somewhere?
There`s gotta be somebody for me out there.

Nobody wants to be the last one there
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares.
Is there somebody else that feels the same somewhere?
There has gotta be somebody for me out there.
