This is a list of undefeated Division I football teams, which describes all teams that finished the NCAA College Football season without any losses. In the very early years of college football (prior to the 1930s) records are incomplete.

Undefeated Division I Football Bowl Subivision

This section covers teams that played in college football's highest division:

  • University Division until 1972
  • Division I from 1973 - 1977
  • Division I-A from 1978 - 2005
  • Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) from 2006 (despite the official NCAA change in nomenclature, most sports media still use the "I-A" identifier)

Undefeated and untied, since 1936

Since 1936, these teams all finished the season having won every game in which they appeared.

Undefeated Division I Football Championship Subdivision

This section covers teams that competed in the second tier of Division I since it was split in 1978:

  • Division I-AA from 1978 - 2005
  • Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) from 2006

Note that Division I FCS, still generally identified by sports media as Division I-AA despite the official NCAA change of nomenclature, features a single-elimination playoff, reducing the likelihood of having multiple teams finishing the season with undefeated records. However, several conferences voluntarily do not compete in the playoff, meaning that there is still a chance to have multiple undefeated teams in the same year.

In both lists in this section, teams in bold competed in the I-AA or FCS playoffs, thereby winning the national title, in the relevant season.

Undefeated but with ties

These teams finished the season with no losses, but with some ties, after 1978 in Division I-AA or FCS football.
