The Rockfort express(6178/6177) is a night express train that connects Tiruchirapalli(Trichy) and Chennai in South Indian State Tamil Nadu. It runs between Tiruchirapalli Junction Railway Station and Chennai Egmore Railway Station everynight. The Train numbered 6178 departs from Tiruchirapalli Junction at 22.00 Hours and reaches Chennai Egmore at 05 15 Hours the next day. The parallel train numbered 6177 starts around 22 30 Hours from Chennai Egmore and reaches the Tiruchirapalli Junction around 05 15 hours the next day.

Its named after the famous Rockfort temple in Tiruchirapalli, it's origin city. It is the most popular train for people travelling between Trichy and Chennai at night time. This train takes more than 7 hours to cover Trichy to Chennai Egmore, this train belongs to the mail category. The extension of this train to Kumbakonam is named as Rockfort link Express(6178A/6177A) runs between Tiruchirapalli Junction and Kumbakonam with limited coaches.

The Train comprises of 24 coaches - A/C First Class, A/C 2-Tier, First Class, A/C 3-tier, Second class sleeper and General compartments.
