Allelujah Haptism (アレルヤ・ハプティズム, Areruya Haputizumu) is a fictional character in the Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Allelujah has an alter-ego named Hallelujah (ハレルヤ, Hareruya). He is the pilot of the GN-003 Gundam Kyrios and later, GN-007 Arios Gundam.

Allelujah's Past

Allelujah's early childhood is unknown. He somehow became an orphan and was used in the Human Reform League for experiments in the Human Reform League Super Soldier Organization.[2] Experimentation led to a splitting of Allelujah’s personalities, bringing a darker side out of the usually gentle man.

As one of the HRL's test subjects given the ability to use quantum brainwaves, Allelujah somehow was the only one who could hear the cries(Emission of quantum brain waves) of Marie Parfacy, a disabled girl who had lost the use of all five senses. Overwhelmed with joy at his presence, Marie christened him with the name "Allelujah", feeling that it was appropriate as she was thankful to God for being alive and having someone whom she was able to talk with. Allelujah would from then on come to spend most of his time by Marie's side.

After being marked for disposal by the Super Soldier Organization, Allelujah and a group of other children resolved to steal a space carrier and escape from the institute. Allelujah was initially racked with guilt for not being able to bring Marie with him. However, the escape plan eventually went awry and the children found themselves drifting in space whilst rapidly running out of food and oxygen. In order to survive, the desperate Allelujah allowed his more impulsive side ("Hallelujah") to take over, mercilessly slaughtering all of his comrades on board. As such, Hallelujah came to be a mechanism of sorts for Allelujah to cope with the stigma of bloodying his hands.

Alone and drifting aimlessly through space, Allelujah was recovered by Celestial Being; cursing his fate and the world, Allelujah decided to join, resolving to change the distorted world that had created corrupted and suffering individuals such as himself.

History

First Season

Like all of the other Gundam Meisters, Allelujah was selected by Veda to be a Meister, and maintains this position (evidence in episode 5 when he abandons his mission to rescue a group of civilians).

In episode 11, after a devastating blow to Celestial Being after HRL forces nearly caught the Gundams and Hallelujah's resurgence, Allelujah reveals to Sumeragi about the Superhuman Institute's main research base on a developing colony. He, along with Tieria go to colony Quiaqui to destroy the Institute. But as he is about to pull the trigger against the facility, Hallelujah taunts him about not being able to do it. After the facility is destroyed, news is leaked to the media, earning Allelujah some closure.

When Setsuna F. Seiei starts a war with Team Trinity, Allelujah stayed behind to look after Ptolemy in case anything unexpected happens, which in turn makes him the only Meister to have never fought against them. During the second battle again the UN forces, Hallelujah blocks out the headaches that are caused by proximity to Soma Peries. When Neil Dylandy, the first Lockon Stratos, was killed during the combined attack by the UN forces, he as well as many others, cried for him.

During the final battle against the UN forces, Hallelujah manages to destroy a number of the GN-X before been outpowered by the powerful Alvatore, which managed to heavily damage Kyrios in the process. Allelujah then battles Soma and Sergei, allowing both personalities to work together against their common foes, and manages to damage Sergei's GN-X. Soma Peries however manages to land the final blow, incapacitating Kyrios, effectively "killing" Hallelujah's personality, and leaving Allelujah adrift in space, only realizing Soma's identity as "Marie" in his defeat. When he asks Hallelujah about this Hallelujah responds with "If you had known, then you wouldn't fight anymore, you'd just die". Showing that Hallelujah knew about this all along.

Second Season

At the beginning of the second season, Allelujah has been detained in a prison cell after being captured after the final battle of the first season. After Soma Peries joins the A-Laws, she approaches him at his prison and he greets her as Marie, despite her denying the name as her own. Shortly afterward, Setsuna and the crew of the Ptolemaios begin an assault on the prison to free him. Allelujah escapes and reaches his new Gundam, but is held at gunpoint by Soma before he can enter the unit. When Soma refuses to acknowledge she is Marie, Allelujah reveals her real name - Marie Parfacy - which triggers a series of visions that incapacitate her long enough for Allelujah to escape before reinforcements arrive, vowing to rescue her one day. Reunited with his comrades in Celestial Being, he is visibly shocked upon meeting Lyle Dylandy, the new Lockon Stratos, before being welcomed back by Tieria Erde.

During a confrontation with Soma in her custom Ahead, damage is done to the Arios. Allelujah uses the Arios to grab on to her Ahead, causing both units to fall down onto the island below. Allelujah is attacked by Soma who, before she could hurt him, regains her memories and recognizes him almost immediately as the Allelujah she knew when she was a child. While waiting for rescue, the pair talk; Allelujah expresses his guilt over the murder of their super soldier brethren, and Marie in turn apologizes for "killing" Hallelujah and leaving a deep scar on his forehead.

Sergei soon arrives and pulls out his gun as he sees Allelujah as both a threat to Soma, and a person who killed his comrades. Despite Marie's protests, Allelujah tells Sergei that he is willing to be shot so long as it ensures the safety and happiness of Marie. Just as Sergei pulls the trigger, Marie jumps in front of Allelujah; however, Sergei does not fire his gun at the pair, as he merely wanted proof that Soma genuinely cared for Allelujah. After Sergei departs, Allelujah thanks Marie for giving him a reason to live. The pair are eventually found by Lyle, who congratulates Allelujah when he sees them kiss.

After bringing Marie back to the Ptolemaios 2, Allelujah is confronted by Feldt. She angrily laments that Marie - or rather, Soma Peries - was one of the people that caused the destruction of Celestial Being 4 years ago. Allelujah apologizes, saying that Feldt is special to him as she is part of his "family", and the three eventually reconcile.

During the testing of the 00 Raiser in episode 10, Allelujah's exposure to the huge amount of GN particles emitted cause his quantum brainwaves to react abnormally, and Hallelujah makes a brief reappearance; however, after the test is completed, Allelujah reverts back to normal, with no recollection of what had just occurred.

When the Innovators attacks the damaged Ptolemios, Allelujah engages Innovator Revive Revival in battle.

While a coup d’état is taking place AEU's orbital elevator, Allelujah, along with the other meister, assisted the other Katharon mobile suit group and the coup forces from the federation army while Setsuna and Saji go into space to destroy the second Memento Mori. When the orbital elevator was destroyed and the debris falling towards a city, the meisters went first to destroy the falling debris and was surprised to see Marie in the GN Archer there, but to the meisters surprise is not only Katharon and the coup forces assisting them but the Federation army and A-Laws also. In the aftermatch, Allelujah went to find Marie and sees an exploding Tieren, but was shocked when he hears from Marie that the pilot from that Tieren was Sergei. This incident immediately causes Marie to revert back to becoming Soma Peries, something that Allelujah finds hard to swallow.

Four months later, he continues to struggle with the fact that Marie is once again Soma, constantly angering her with the mere mention of her other personality's name, but is slowly coming to terms with it with advice from Lyle. In episode 19, His alter-ego, Hallelujah, returned for a brief moment, from the massive exposure of GN Particles released by 00 Raiser while in Trans-Am mode during a battle against A-Laws.

Dual Personality

There are two halves of Allelujah's personality due to the enhancing of his brain. The two halves differentiate by the calling of the darker half, 'Hallelujah' as well as Allelujah's hair covering the left half of his face to reveal a gold colored right eye.

The dominant personality is Allelujah, a decidedly kind and gentle person. When the rest of the Ptolemaios crew are sent to Earth, he chose to stay and help with maintenance. He doesn’t like to kill, and it often brings up a confrontation with his other half, such as when he was about to fire upon the HRL's Super Soldier Facility. He is against killing and was strongly opposed to when La Eden began attacking civilians.

Hallelujah, on the other hand, carries a strong survivalist view: kill or be killed. He will do anything in order to survive. Hallelujah was born as a result of quantum brain modifications. When Allelujah is in conflict over what he should do, Hallelujah will offer to 'take over' Allelujah's body so he won't be so morally conflicted. Hallelujah has gone as far as to claim he is the embodiment of Allelujah's desires, taking action when Allelujah's morals get in the way. When Allelujah and his friends escaped the facility to avoid being "disposed" of they stole a transport. But without any plan they drifted in space and ran out of food and air. Eventually in order to survive, Hallelujah took over and killed the others.

Abilities

Though the HRL considers Allelujah to be a failed subject of the super soldier project, he is able to demonstrate abilities that exceed that of ordinary pilots on both physical and mental levels. In battle, Allelujah uses his enhanced intelligence and is a capable tactician.

If Allelujah is trapped or overwhelmed to the extent that he is unable to effectively counter a dangerous situation, his secondary alter-ego takes control. This personality, Hallelujah, reveals a much more bloodthirsty and violent side of the Gundam Meister. Hallelujah's primary concern is survival at any cost and shows a sadistic streak towards enemies, going as far as killing his enemies slowly and painfully. Hallelujah also has the ability to block out interference from other people who were used in the HRL's experiments, relieving Allelujah of severe pain induced from it.

Allelujah and Hallelujah can combine to become what Allelujah/Halleujah calls the "perfect soldier" [3][4] - a mixture of the planning and thinking done by Allelujah with the instinctive battle sense of Hallelujah. When fully combined (that is, when Allelujah is strongly willing to fight), Alleujah/Hallelujah raises his hair up so that both eyes are uncovered and their skills are vastly improved.

After sustaining a head injury at the end of season one, Hallelujah "leaves", and Allelujah loses his ability to use quantum brain waves. This seems to affect his ability to pilot, and in the second season he is shown lamenting his apparent loss of skills.

It is shown that in 2 occasions, the Hallelujah personality was able to temporarily wake from his "sleep" in the presence of the high density of GN particles, caused by the activation of the 00-Raiser's Trans-Am. Allelujah's original personality would revert back to normal once the 00-Raiser's Trans-Am reaches its theoretical time limit & the particles dissipate.s2 ep10s2 ep19
