Barnstar

The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution
I hereby award you, the anonymous contributors hailing from 156.34.0.0 - 156.34.255.255, with The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution, for the unsung and thankless service you have rendered unto Wikipedia, in your countless minor edits and bigger contributions over time. They have made a difference in our community and hopefully retelling this event to the barmen you encounter may bring forth the odd free beer to wrap in your hand. Thanks!--Alf melmac 14:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC) and Bubba hotep 14:24, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
tears, smiles, waves to the audience as he walks down the podium, kisses losing IPs on the cheek. 156.34 is a team of bored librarians(and the occasional vandalising student...but we'll ignore them). On behalf of the "library crew"..we thank you for the token of Wiki-appreciation. 156.34.142.110 14:35, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, this has more historical significance than appears on the surface. You see, this is probably the only Barnstar young Alfred has given out this year (something about losing the keys to the cabinet or something) so, as such, is rare indeed. Guard it with your life. ;) Bubba hotep 14:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing this page is quite shocking. Thank you! Enigma (talk) 17:29, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm happy to see it. I have to admit that I do have a bias against anonymous editors as well, but the reason for that bias is that most of the vandalism edits I revert do come from IP addresses. However, IP addresses do sometimes provide valuable input, and this is certainly the most striking example. All of Wikipedia is in your debt. Enigma (talk) 18:05, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Invisible Barnstar

The Invisible Barnstar
The Invisible Barnstar is awarded to 156.34.142.110 for their outstanding contributions to Wikipedia and for not seeking any form of recognition or reward for their contributions. The description for this award says that this is for users who "Make significant and helpful contributions to the project, but keep to the background without seeking recognition or reward for their work." and being that 1) You only edit as a Static IP and have forgone you old account and 2) Have made nothing but good contributions to Wikipedia, I figured that you deserved this barnstar :). Congrats! Mifter (talk) 03:20, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I came upon your user page and after a few minutes of thought I realized that you were probably the perfect candidate for this barnstar being that you edit as an IP address. Anyways, I hope you enjoy your new barnstar!--Mifter (talk) 03:20, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes

I was thinking about what you had said and I decided to create a few userboxes to describe you, If you would like to you can add them to your userpage :), Thanks--Mifter (talk) 22:45, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

Your IP address is one of three (156.34.142.110, 142.166.250.98, 156.34.211.193) that have recently being involved in an edit war with User:Navnløs regarding formatting in music articles. Because all three of these IP address come from the same location (St. John, New Brunswick) and because at least one of them has had contact with other edits involved in this long-running dispute - I believe that all of the IPs are being used by a single individual or by a number of individuals engaged in coordinated edit warring. I have therefore blocked all three IPs for 24 hours. You can find more information here. If you feel that this block is unwarranted, you may appeal it by following the process outlined here. TigerShark (talk) 16:45, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OMGWTF somebody doesn't know who libsey is! Weltanschaunng 18:11, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He's out for the weekend thankfully. Hmm... interesting situation though. Kameejl's code is coming along nicely. As I write this I am having another admin look into it. Surprise, surprise... the script only changes "," to "<br />" and not visa versa. I've been advised just to watch carefully... these are interesting times we live in. ScarianCall me Pat 22:16, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I didn't see where libsey flouted the 3rr rule. Unless the user tigershark is assuming that the 142 IP is libsey (which is wrong I think). Dunno I have kept myself away from the line break, comma war at all times so I don't really know. I guess libsey being an IP could've been a factor, but that's my POV anyway. Weltanschaunng 06:57, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Tigershark is basing it on the premise that all three IPs are the same user. Libs's main IP (this one) clearly did not engage in an edit war. Enigma message 07:02, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Did you see the AN posting? Enigma message 07:04, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I did, basically the report started out as a complaint against Navnlos, but some user inquired whether the IPs are related. So basically Tigershark must've checked whether the IPs are from the same area, which he claims to have found (I really don't know much about RDNS and other IP tracing stuff). I did a check on 142 IP and it seems to be from Canada. I don't know the exact details, though. IMO, even if the block is only for 24 hrs, it is essential that the block be contested since the block is based on wrong premises. Weltanschaunng 08:21, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well now I checked again, and libsey (variable ip) did two reverts, while the unknown 142 ip did the third. Weltanschaunng 08:25, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Yes that is the premise that I was working with, along with the fact that this IP address has been involved in the content dispute previously (including the exchange that led to a previously block for Navnlos [1]), and the likelihood that the IP is dynamic is reinforced by this edit which took place at around the same time, with different content, but an identical edit summary. I have no way to prove that the 156 and 142 IPs are the same person of course, and I will be happy to admit any mistake and apologise, but I blocked Navnlos and the significant similarities between the IPs locations and reverts meant that I felt I had to block them too, to be even handed. I did make the reasoning clear on WP:AN3 and here, so that it was as transparent, and as easy to appeal as possible. Cheers TigerShark (talk) 11:23, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One another note

I have completed the work in my sandbox, and I have introduced the new format in the list. Its not all done, most non-us bands don't have a description. And I got to put pics in too, maybe even include some description about the major scenes...I would like to know the FA procedure too :D! Weltanschaunng 14:50, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On that point, would it be wise to put information about the major local scenes of thrash in the list, or does that info belong to the main article? Weltanschaunng 09:29, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WarCry disco

You got so many IPs that I don't know where is your talk page :). Well I'll send you their dico through RapidShare or MegaUpload, just tell me if that's OK with you. They have released 5 albums and there's another one coming net month, their first 3 albums are (in my opinion) masterpieces, the other two are just good, they said that the new one promises to be totally different and their best. Also they sing in Spanish, and I was wndering why would you like to have their disco, but anyways I'll send it to you, please answer back, so that I know you read this message. Rockk3r Spit it Out! 02:52, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Freddie Mercury's ethnicity

I think the BBC don't even know what they're talking about. Compare this article where they claim he's proudly Iranian, to this one where they say he's Azerbaijani (!), and here they call him "Indian Parsi"....

I have watched the documentaries A Kind of Magic and Freddie Mercury: The Untold Story and neither of them implied he was anything but Indian Parsi. The latter, I believe, mentioned that the name Bulsara comes from the city of Bulsar in Gujarat.

The best way to handle it, in my opinion, is to go on saying he's Indian Parsi heritage. That seems to have the most support from external sources, including the ones in the documentaries, who happen to be his family and closest associates. Thoughts? ... discospinster talk 01:50, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've copied what I've written here to Talk:Freddie Mercury. This is an issue that's been going on for so long, I don't know if it will even make a difference! It's even been documented in the Wikipedia page Wikipedia:Lamest edit wars. I'm so proud to be a part of that slice of history! ... discospinster talk 01:58, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re your comment

I don't believe I made personal attacks. The Mammy I refered to was Phil Lynott's. The user in question WAS making personal and pejorative comments eg "fanboy". I was making the legitimate point that the Thin Lizzy page is a terrible. It has no editorial balance and is weighted towards a not very important or notable line up that trades on the 1970s and 1980s history and songs but without the key songwriters Lynott and Downey. A review of the editors work indicates that he/she is a serial reverter. I imagine his/Her agressive and pejorative approach and editing history could bear some examination. Thanks . bias

You are obviously a maggot aka slipknot fan, please stop attempting to label slipknot a heavy metal band, you should not be reverting my edits when they are clearly justified. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Melkortheevil (talkcontribs) 01:52, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I don't like Slipknot at all. I am an Motorhead/Iron Maiden/Black Sabbath/Rush/Led Zeppelin fan. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 02:04, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't need to improve my search ranking. I provided a link to something that is not available on wikipedia; A complete list of all Queen and solo songs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Queenarchives (talkcontribs) 16:43, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Response to my talk page

First, AMG is a reliable source. Hell, it's featured in some of Wikipedia's own templates. Your argument there is moot.

Second, I checked the talk page, and there is no consensus as to the genre. There isn't even a discussion, so don't even try to sling that crap around.

It looks to me that you're trying to press your personal opinion and hide it by citing policies that don't even apply to the situation.

I have the citation. You don't. Get over it.

the Blocked one

Thanx for you warning man. What we see is that I'm not blocked yet and we'll see wether I'd be or not.And we both know no one will be blocked for a wrong sourcing.Besides doing an edit war without discussing on the talk page is what you did and that's against wikipedia rules as I had talked on the talk page in ages and no one had stated a disagreement in the talk page.An ways,You could easily talk it on the talk page at first place and I would accept your explanaition.Goodluck warrior.Keep your feet on the ground.Solino the Wolf (talk) 00:43, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lol.It was 3RR.That libs one made me do it:D I had completly forgotten about that:D —Preceding unsigned comment added by Solino (talkcontribs) 11:28, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot about it? You were issued a warning for 3RR. You should have been blocked for a week. Do not add anymore genres to any articles as it appears you do not have any knowledge of the subjects you are trying to edit. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 13:34, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
