The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009 will be the seventh edition of Junior Eurovision Song Contest and will take place in Kiev, Ukraine. It has been scheduled for 21st November.[1]

Location

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) invited broadcasters to bid for the rights to host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009; three bids were received from Belarus, Serbia, and Ukraine.[2] TV4 of Sweden had originally sent in a bid during summer 2007, but soon withdrew its bid after deciding to completely withdraw from the contest.[3] After deliberations by the EBU, National Television Company of Ukraine was granted the rights to the 2009 contest and will host it in Kiev.[4] Ukraine also hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2005.

Possible withdrawals

  •  Greece is considering withdrawal after five years of participation because of the relatively low television ratings for the contest and an objection to using children.[11]
