Guilty Pleasure is the second studio album by pop singer Ashley Tisdale via Warner Brothers Records. It will be released on June 11, 2009 in Spain, as is scheduled for release worldwide on June 16, 2009 and is set to be released in North America on July 28, 2009. [1] The lead single from the album, "It's Alright, It's OK" premiered on KIIS FM's On Air with Ryan Seacrest,[2] and it was officialy released on April 14th, 2009.[3].

Album information

Tisdale described the album as a way to show to the world she has grown up. She also stated that these songs have a message and a story that anyone can relate to.[4] Tisdale stated the album was entitled Guilty Pleasure because of her own guilty pleasures such as Coffee Bean and reading Perez Hilton.[5] Unlike her first album, Headstrong, Tisdale hopes to show off her "edgier" side with more mature songs, leaving behind the pop and R&B songs.[6]

I’ve been working on the second album for a year, and it’s something completely different from the first album. Doing the first album is a lot of learning about yourself -- I had to get to know what I like, even though I knew I wanted to do something pop and R&B. I went for more of a rock sound. I’m 23 now, so I’m growing up, and I wanted something more mature and edgier. I’m starting to show a side of myself that people don’t know.

— — Ashley Tisdale, talks about Guilty Pleasure[7]

In April 2009, Tisdale's official website confirmed there would be a limited edition of the album with extra bonus tracks and three double-sided posters of Tisdale.[8]

Recording history

In April 2008, she stated that she recorded a couple of songs for her next album and after shooting High School Musical 3 she would focus her attention on her second album during an interview with 'Extra!'.[9] Later that year, she announced the album would have "more rock and edgier" music.[10][11] Tommy Page stated in his official website that he was working on Tisdale's second album.[12] Tisdale describes this album as being "edgier" than her previous album.[13]

Music and lyrical content

Tisdale stated the track "Hot Mess" is "about hanging out with a motorcycle bad boy that makes life more interesting" and the track "How Do You Love Someone?" is "about a girl who deals with the split of her parents".[13] Tisdale co-wrote several tracks on this album, including "Acting Out", "Overrated", and two ballads "Me Without You" and "What If", which she co-wrote with Kara DioGuardi. Tisdale described "What If" as the most personal track of the album and said the song "is about when you’re in a relationship and you say 'If I really needed you, would you actually be there?’"[14]. The bonus track "Time's Up" was originally recorded by Katy Perry for her album "The Matrix (album)" with the production group "The Matrix". Template:Sound sample box align right

Promotion

Tisdale also embarked on a European promo tour in March 2009, in which she visited the United Kingdom,[15] France[16],Germany[17] and Italy.[18] In April 2009, Tisdale premiered "It's Alright, It's OK" on On Air with Ryan Seacrest,[2] later the same day she was on Radio Disney for the debut of her first single.[19] Tisdale started a promo radio tour in May 2009[20] and she performed songs from the album at the 2009 KISS Concert in May 2009.[21] Tisdale performed the single at the 2009 VIVA Comet Awards, TRL Italy and Spanish's reality show Fama during her promotional tour across Europe in June, 2009. The music video of "It's Alright, It's OK" was shown in 6,600 movie theatres in the United States from April 24th until May 28th.[22] On June 10, 2009, Tisdale "posted" the song "Masquerade" on her official MySpace as a result of postponing the album's release date. The song is expected to be released onto the iTunes store. [23]
