Bethamcherla is a census town and mandal headquarters in Kurnool district in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Geography

Betamcherla is located at 15°28′00″N 78°10′00″E / 15.4667°N 78.1667°E / 15.4667; 78.1667.[1] It has an average elevation of 400 meters (1315 feet).

This Town was first brought into light by a dynasty namely BUGGANA in Betamcherla. The same dynasty constituted nearly 50% of population in the 90s. Later on Due to the businesses going well, there were so many migrations by the people who found their fortune there. And now the Buggana dynasty people are only 20% of the total population.

It is surrounded by places which are rich in limestone, dolomite deposits and flooring stones.

The businesses first started from Soap stone powder which has a technical name Steatite powder. It is used for enhancing the brightness of a paper which are used for drafting in many purposes.

This town is the highest revenue generator for the electrical department around Kurnool District as there are around 400-500 small scale industries in this town along the path of every outgoing road.

The city is economically very good since businesses are very well going. Though the businesses are seasonal (since if it rains, the mining would stop), The income level it gives would satisfy a persons family's needs for a year.


Agriculture

Near to Bethamcherla, there is two villages called Rudravaram and Yembai. This villages is famous for Mangoes and also seetaramapuram, sankalapuram, bynapalle,Balapalapalli, Muddaram, these villages are also growing sound in agriculture. In bethamcherla mandalam, most of the people are depending on the stone factories.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Bethamcherla had a population of 30,977. Males constituted 51% of the population and females 49%. Bethamcherla has an average literacy rate of 52%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 62% of the males and 38% of females literate. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Buggana Sesha Reddy Government High school in this town is a very old school which was constructed by the mightier Buggana Sesha Reddy himself. It took him twenty years to complete the construction as the plan was very Outstanding. The Walls were built using very old method of mixing concrete. Sand, one spice of paan, concrete, were mixed and used to place in between the stones which makes the total building stand strong and even very cool inside the rooms.

The Construction was complete in 1973 and later when the time rolled on, it was converted to Government High school.
