Vyara is a city, a municipality and the district headquarters of the Tapi district in the Indian state of Gujarat.
Geography
Vyara is located at 21°07′N 73°24′E / 21.12°N 73.4°E[1]. It has an average elevation of 69 metres (226 feet).
Demographics
As of 2001[update] India census[2], Vyara had a population of 36,213. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Vyara has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 69%. In Vyara, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
History
Vyara town was ruled by the Gaekwads of the Princely State of Baroda and it still has a fort of the Gaekwad family. The population residing here mainly consists of the Bhavsar, vsChaudhary, [Gamit][1], Patel , Shah, Desai, Rana, Pancholi, Darji, and Maharashtrian Communities. The town has large numbers of migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Vyara is also the birthplace of Amarsingh Chaudhry (died 2003), the ex-Chief Minister of Gujarat State.
vyara is connected via rail and road transport. and about 300 k.m. far away from mumbai internation airport.
Vyara is the headquarters of the Tapi District which came into existence on 2 October, 2007, created by the Gujarat Government under Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Tapi District consists of the five Talukas of Vyara, Songadh, Valod, Nizar and Ucchal. The District was separated from the greater Surat District.
